Hero talents better be visual

I really hope hero talents are way more visual in terms of spell affects, rather than just number boosts…let’s just hope it’s not, “heres some hero talents, that aren’t visually appealing and do nothing for your class”…This is one of the core mechanics for war within, better not screw this one up…

They could’ve just made class skins but nooooo gotta put some player power in there.

You’re asking for quite a lot from a small indie developer.

at least its just an additional talent tree not something you grind for

it’s basically like the Draenor perks. everyone gets all of them by max lvl

I actually don’t hope this.

I hope we get an actual cosmetic class skin system with glyphs that’s not tied to player power at all. Like what we’ve been asking for for years. lol.

I would expect some kind of visual effects to represent each hero tree after they put in the effort to redo all the covenant visuals.

I take it you missed the article?

Most Hero Talent trees add new visual effects to classes, both to communicate what they’re doing and bring their class fantasies to life. However, these are not complete visual reworks – your class and spec are still the same at their core, and that will continue to come through.

When I first heard about it I was kind of hoping for that too. But then my pessimism reminded me that this is Blizzard.

Bro we’re all getting other classes’ recolored effects and animations. Don’t pretend it will be anything different.

Why not both?

They have said, since day 1…that the main aspect of hero talents is just an extension of trees we already have.

There will be some minor visuals. But that has NEVER been the goal or intent of hero talents.

People get lofty goals that go against their literal words, then get mad at Blizzard for not meeting these things that Blizzard said they were not going to do.

Yea I see it as the extra wheel of Artifact talents that were added in 7.2 I think?

Where it’s just a slight bump to the artifact talent system in adding a small handful more interactions.

More or less.

They said they wanted to expand talent trees, but not in a way to disrupt current builds. If they just tacked these on to current trees it could force people to go certain routes on trees to access certain things. Force a change in playstyle.

So having a mini-reset tree allows more talents to be added without potentially killing off builds people currently enjoy.

They honestly just seem like the equivalent of slapping an additional class on top of what you already play. Totally anticipating that over time we get more points for the tree with every xpack, until the tree is the size of the normal talent tree with as many points. Either that or I’m anticipating extra hero classes with every xpack going forward. I can’t see them being scrapped after War Within, but then again, once upon a time we had artefact weapons, so who knows.

They mentioned at blizzcon that they still have room below the area dedicated for the Hero Talent section to add another point distribution area.

So I can see them just adding a Legendary talent section or something lol.

But what I would rather them do is just add more Hero Path options. So currently we will be getting 2 options to choose from. Would be cool to get a 3rd option for each spec. Perhaps this 3rd option is not a merging of 2 specs to pick from, but a split off your current spec.

So for example, as a Shadow Priest, our damage toolkit can be divided into Periodic Damage and Non-Periodic damage. So I can see 2 additional Hero Paths that focus on each damage type which could lead to having less spells to manage as the portion the path is not focused on could essentially just be forgotten or they get transformed entirely to a different spell that fits that damage profile of that specific hero path.

The result would be pruning on rotational spells but at the choice of the player to instead focus more power into a smaller group of abilities.

Can’t totally disregard some spells as your base spec tree would then be questionable, but perhaps more so you push more power in a select group of damage type spells which would change up your spell priority instead of outright dropping less used spells.

One of these new “hero talent” trees will be best numerically so that everyone will be playing the same one. This always happens. Whatever spec you are there will be only one to choose to be viable. Just like covenants.

Hero talents shouldn’t be the solution to our baseline mechanic issues. Honestly they should just scrap hero talents and instead expand and refine our current talent trees.

Add class transmog, spell visuals and barbershop customizations to fulfill the “Hero” class fantasy. Add more spell glyphs so people can choose which esthetic they want on a spell by spell basis with no restrictions based on race. Go nuts, the more choices the better.
