Hero Talents and Class Fantasy

I personally love the idea of becoming a new hero type of subclass, but part of me hopes they explain why certain hero class sections are opening up to all races. For instance , Mountain Thane is a very lore heavy dwarf specific title/class. Why and how would ,for example, a void elf or goblin go this route?

Even a nice bit of flavor text in the TWW where an earthen mountain thane is introducing his powers to random heroes and races would be something. Sure it’s not the perfect answer, but it’s something.

I can kind of headcanon some stuff, like maybe the Shado-Pan opened up their organization to all races? San’layn are spreading their vampiric abilities to other races. But stuff like mountain thane and dark ranger seem problematic, lorewise, if certain races are being them.

So that the person who decides to make such a character can answer that question.

If we’re being real, I think there are just some classes that they really struggled to find Hero specs for, and had to settle on ones that have traditionally been race-specific.

If you were in the room when they were hashing out Warrior ones, and had a really good idea with lots of abilities and seemed workable, I’m sure they would have trashed Mountain Thane in a heartbeat.

We still don’t know if hero specs will have any meaning in lore, as far as i’m aware, not even our spec is an important detail.

But I think they stated somewhere the hero specs sre supposed to fit every race that plays that class.

I guess they’re supposed to be open for interpretation, or maybe there is a small questline or a trainer of each hero spec training you on these abilities.

One of the interviews recently pretty much stated these hero specs are just for fun and for now won’t involve any lore to accompany them.

Lore has it’s place, but sometimes it just needs to be balled up and thrown in the rubbish.

The thing is to take what you make and make it work.

As a roleplayer, I incorporate my character’s class and spec into their background. Some of these hero specs are so race specific that it limits what characters I’d play.

I don’t care if these are strictly a gameplay addition and are largely deprived of lore value, I’ll go full delulu and make the baseless assumption that the San’layn Talent indicates my favorite decrepit douchebags will make their return as a Horde-aligned breakaway group that survived the Alliance’s attack on the Crimson Squall in BFA, giving us San’layn customization options in the process through a Manari-esque questline

You’re welcome
