I think it’s safe to say that the most polarizing part of DH right now is our Hero Talents.
Base class issues aside, neither of our trees really hit the mark. IMO the phrase “Hero Talents” enriches the core fantasy of that spec.
For instance some really well done ones to me are the Riders for Unholy DK, Stormbringer for Shaman, Dark Ranger for Hunter. These all nail a particular part of the class / spec fantasy, and improve core gameplay.
DH doesn’t have that. Fel Scarred gets it a little bit with the empowered spells in Meta, but demon surge misses the mark IMO.
On the other hand the concept of Reavers Mark for the AR tree is just so out of place and feels awful to play. Throw Glaive is a fluff button, why is a hero talent tree based off it? Imagine making a tree for Warriors based off Heroic Throw, like cmon.
I’d advise going back to the drawing board with this in mind: The iconic parts of DH are Eye Beam and Blade Dance.
Make a tree about blade work (Glaive Master) with Blade Dance & Chaos Strike improvements as the centerpiece and rework Fel Scarred to be more about Eye Beam and not just a 2 minute spec

I can see from your post that you only play Havoc, considering VDH doesn’t have eye beam or blade dance. While I agree with you that the hero talents don’t add to the class fantasy, as many posts by myself and others on this forum can attest to, they’re not going to build hero talents around spells that only one spec has access to. They shouldn’t build them around spells as the core idea, the core idea should be around the class fantasy, the aesthetic, the lore, the history, etc.

It does seem a bit strange that Aldrachi Reaver is based on collecting soul shards… which Havoc primarily does from killing things.
Havoc kinda seems like an afterthought for that hero talent. Like… taking a 1minute AOE CD for a single target spec just cause it spawns soul shards is kinda whack.
To be fair to other classes, a LOT of the Hero talents have some specs feeling like an after thought. Feral is a great example. Druid of the Claw would have been amazing… but it’s kinda clunky and based on auto attack procs… when instead it could have been all about making bear weaving a supplement for the energy nerfs… Wildstalker feels like it was intended to make cat weaving more fun for healers and less like it was supposed to be cool for Feral.
It’s almost like they just rushed a lot of these / didn’t have time to really cook their ideas fully.
Aldrachi Reaver for Havoc kinda reminds me of one of those comic strips where they’re like “This is how the project was explained to the customer: Gold”, “This is how the project was explained to upper management: Gold printing machine”, “This is how the project was explained to the Engineers who built it: A gold swing”, “This is what the engineers made: A tire tied to a tree trunk and a crying child holding a lump of coal.”
Lol.
Personally I would love for Eye Beam/Eye Beam Resets + heavy focus on Chaos Strike/Blade Dance. But in all fairness I haven’t really given Aldrachi Reaver much much playtime.
I do enjoy the way Demonsurge works quite a bit, though it’s a bit silly that it’s uncapped AOE damage, especially for VDH. My only gripe with Fel-Scarred right now is that I wanna be able to press my buttons more often. Feels like I get to do my cool combo once every 40 seconds and I’m just trying not to look bad inbetween lol.
Also the whole me risking dying every time I use Fel Rush for Inertia. I don’t like that much. I feel like I can hear the blood pressure of everyone else in my group rising when I play this spec.
Pretty sure they just wanna see my corpse sliding out of the way so they can all breathe without having to worry about me fel rushing some debuff into them… or healing me after I fel rush into something awful. Lol.

AR is DOA and FS is whatever, just more movement for damage nonsense.
They could always just make different spec’s for the different roles. They did this with other classes that have tank specs… Litterally just make Fel-scarred remove meta and make meta “demon surge” which turns us into an empowered demon form.
Make our demon form our “true form” like the uniques for druid do in D4 and then give our demon form some amps. With our core abiltities being changed into the abilities they turn into now.
The trade off for this epic form and constantly walking around like our creator? We dont get to see our transmog at all. Similar to druid forms. This then would give them an actual reason to give us the feature of customizing the form as we have to look at it way more often.
I’m playing Fel-Scarred with an Immolation Aura build.
Ragefire + Any Means Necessary + Isolated Prey + Know Your Enemy + A Fire Inside
It’s a lot of fun cranking out numerous Immolation Auras, especially on single target when Isolated Prey makes all of them guaranteed crit, and you’re not endangering yourself by dashing through all the pain meant to threaten the tank.
My only gripe would be that Burning Wound is limited to 3 targets which needlessly gimps your damage in AoE. Other than that, I’m very much enjoying the build.
Dark Ranger is actually getting a rework because it’s garbanzo.
Reaver’s glaive is a cool concept but feels stupid. After using the hunt we get a reaver proc and… throw it in melee… BUT WHY? Can we just make reaver’s glaive be a CD and just be used for our opener pre hunt?
The fact that there are so many talents revolving around immo aura feels pointless too. It’s quite literally aimed at being a defensive yet we are expected to use it for damage and fury generation. How about we just make immo aura an actual buff that stays on and just change what it does. Please consider dh devs. Please and thank you.
Felscarred just being green explosions is kinda boring, why cant we get ranged attacks in meta form like Illidan in WC3?
Agree with you. Personally I think they should bring back the old fel barrage and design an entire hero spec around that (fel-scarred probably)
