Hero spec restrictions

Does it bother anyone else that not all hero specs are available to all specs?

Like why can’t a ele shaman not specialize further into totems?

Why can’t a blood DK be a horseman?

I realize some would take a little creativity to work, like druid if the claw for resto and boomy. But it could work.

Like ravage could summon an emerald feline effigy that does DMG and heals based on the DMG done or an astral feline effigy that does arcane dmg.

I’m just going to pick whatever is the most powerful, I don’t really care what they are at all thematically. If they give me three tracks, I’d pick the best of three, rather than the best of two.

I do!!!

I wanna make light weapons for my friends as ret cuz it’s cewl.

More than likely for design consistency and balance issues.

For example, with lightsmith they can focus on the healing and utility side of things knowing they won’t create a broken dps mechanic. Or nerfing it won’t effect ret over all.

As it is balancing will be a nightmare with hero talents.

Not saying I agree but hey. As long as I can be a 5% bigger than everyone else dommy mommy night elf warrior I’m happy. I’ll miss fury but sacrifices must be made.

I will say I was super sad when it dawned on me that Ele doesn’t get Totemic.
But for others it just doesn’t make sense.

Like a Frostfire Arcane Mage? Or a Pack Leader Marksmanship Hunter?

PL MM can not run lone wolf.

Frost fire arcane can cycle through Frost and fire effects.

Like arcane orb could summon meteor and the next one comet.

But thematically, why would an arcane mage spec into frostfire? Like sure, mechanically they could just open up the hero tree for it, but it makes no sense to do it.

With the current hero specs it makes sense for a lot of classes, but I wish they would have designed them from the start to not be spec specific. Here’s three options, pick whichever you want.

Then, it would have been much easier to add more throughout the expansion. Hunter’s mad that their only options are elf archer themes or animal focused? Alright lets add a gun/explosive themed hero spec this patch, etc.

I don’t think they were planning on adding more were they? There’s only a set number of class combinations, and each one gets a hero tree. Even if they designed them to be completely separate, I don’t know if they would expand beyond 3 per class (outside of the odd ball classes like druid and demon hunter).

Next, Druids will want to be Dark Rangers. Rogues Mountain Thanes and so on. Because reasons.

A Hero Power that forces you to take a talent is bad enough, a Hero Power that forces you not to take a talent is awful.
And that still doesn’t bridge the gap. MM doesn’t want to press Kill Command.

So what you’re saying is, every class should have only two specs like DH?

Nope. Their game not yours.

you wouldnt. A MM hunter gets a different effect than a BM does. The BM gets the KC offering

I’m not really bothered by the restrictions, however, I do wish that some races had unique hero specs to really get that racial rp going. For example, an Undead Shadow Priest could be a Mad Scientist, or a Troll Hunter having access to Shadow Hunter.

You want them designing 500 different types of hero talent specs and then try to balance them?

Yes

forward slash ten characters

That’s my point. If they weren’t tied to the three specs they could add more down the road without worrying about which specs a new one would be available too. In the current design they could really only add more if they doubled the amount.

Well, because at the end of the day they’re still a mage and all mages can use Frost and fire.

This reminds me of the issue that Legion caused in that they went to far in spec identity and not enough class identity.

So I’d just see it as an arcane mage that dipped in their Frost and fire capabilities.

The main thing that bothers me with Hero Talents is that they’re doing them at all.

Given the appalling state of many spec talent trees, they should be spending this time fixing the existing talent trees, not tacking additional problems onto the system.

Finish what you started, Blizz.

(And the elephant in the room is how every spec has a different number of spendable points in their nodes, yet everyone gets the same number of points to spend. It’s a totally bizarre system. They need to standardize it across specs.)
