Here's what Shadowlands did RIGHT

That animation alone would make them worth using.

PvP would be 60% more hilarious.

engineering the devs seem to hate.

Used to make useful items. Now not so much.

Or fun items…and we know what happens when fun is detected.

the tragic saga of loot o rang for example. lets take something fun and…make it go onto the pile of why bother.

I’d say they come after gliders but even too many non engineers like that item.

Took classic/tbcc for me truly see how this is former shadow of itself. A long time ago…explosives didn’t suck. It was odd. Spamming these to level engineering. and actually using them. Retail these items x,y,z on the crafting leveling guides really. Even
when you were still in your 1 to 60 leveling presquish.

Now if we really wanna talk about all this and what Blizzard did “right”, step into my office waves at a random empty space in GD and let’s have a talk about a little something called MoP

MoP was the last time I recall Blizzard publishing photos of them having a champagne party to celebrate the expansion going “gold” - they were all proud of it, and rightly so. It was a new peak in terms of content, quality and fresh ideas.

It sadly remains the peak, as we all know what happened next.

Give me a MoP classic server and I’ll be there in a heartbeat. And make sure the Wrathion quest chain is back in there.

I don’t understand this one. Domination sockets only work in the raid. If you don’t raid, why do you need domination sockets?

Also… players asked for more solo content, too.

The anima grind while not tied to player power still is not getting it right. It took me as someone who is semi-casual and hardcore at collecting cosmetics, about 11 months just to finish the Venthyr. On 1 character. Some of us want to get every set, weapon, mount, etc, and because of how unreal the anima grind is we either can’t or feel so burnt out after hitting exalted+ at least 40 times on 1 character that we don’t want to anymore.

This content is hardly meaningful either since the anima grind is 50% WQs or 50% Korthia, at some point I finished getting literally every possible drop for Korthia and I don’t want to do the same boring WQs over and over, especially the ridiculously tedious multi-step WQs. The only thing blizz ever gets right is making good raids and dungeons.

The world content and open-world content has been 100% subpar since Legion, Suramar was magnificent and should be the formula when making good meaningful open-world/world content. This doesn’t even feel rewarding by the end of it either, if anything it only feels relieving but also upsetting because most of us can’t even fathom dumping another 300k anima into a different covenant a 2nd time let alone a total of 16. None of this is how it should be done, there are better ways to make engaging content.

After doing it twice, three expansions in a row. That is utter bull :poop:

Shouldn’t of made it out of the Alpha / Beta for a third time!

If it’s a good one and doesn’t impose inherently bad design, like that of the Covenant system that forces a player in a MMO to choose between aesthetic or having more DPS. Then sure.

They listen to what they want to hear, everything else ends up like most posts on this forum. Ignored and forgotten about.

7.0, 8.0 and 9.0 would’ve all been marginally better if Blizzard had listen to their own players in the Alpha / Beta’s of those respective expansions.

You know, the entire purpose of the Alpha / Beta!

If it happens again, in 10.0 this game is legit good as dead. Considering how poorly 9.0 went / has gone.

YOu mean let us make Orange the new Purple Gear .

Legen Legendaries were more Participation Trophies then Legendary once again they are Orange is the new Purple .

The last real Legendary items were the cloak from MoP and the ring from WoD . In fact I would say the cloak from BfA is possibly more legendary then the SL crafted ones .

You are right they do listen , just not instantly but when people have been complaining about the systems since Legion and they keep putting them in expansion after expansion or being told that players don’t want things in the game to farm with the letters A & P since Legion and they still do expansion after expansion .

Maybe it is time for them to take their fingers out of their ears and actually listen and stop making the same mistakes before they start getting complaints in the forums for repeating the same mistakes of the past but branded with a new name for the item .

WHat’s the next power system we are going to tell them in 10.0 that doesn’t work and they ignore and will AP in 10.0 stand for Anduin Potential and what will it be tied to and how much will we have to farm .

Either way we don’t want the systems that have been around since Legion , we don’t want AP . We want fleshed out classes and actual content like more dungeons , quests , raids and battlegrounds . We don’t want content cut because they are too busy each patch trying to fix the systems of the previous patch .

Auctioneer, goggle transmog and brez thingies is about it for me.

I will honestly say this that the chromie time introduction was an amazing feature. World of warcraft for a while before this just had a problem with inflation and bloating. Inflation and bloating of gold. Inflation of the levels. Inflation of the amount of skills and abilities each class had. Content bloating. Etc. You name it, and wow has just been around for a long time.

Chromie time just solved all of those issues more or less. I do not exactly know what they could do to solve gold inflation, but it is one of the more annoying things about retail. Like 300 k gold is still borderline broke. On my server at least. But it gives the ability to just basically design all the leveling content, dungeons, abilities, etc around 60 levels, vs next expansion where we have to level each class 300 levels. I mean, this has been a problem since cataclysm.

I mean, it isn’t a perfect system with chromie time, but it solves alot of problems that wow has had since like wrath. Some classes, hunters for example, had a rediculous amount of abilities to use. But in general, it just solves the inflation issue of the numbers, which is good. One of my gripes about wow over the years, is that in retail, for leveling up in particular, it just is not difficult. Like there just is not enough of a difficulty to the process for leveling, where as playing classic, i do have to watch for more things. My mana, my health. I barely pay attention to any of that stuff in retail.

I feel a difficulty option for chromie time would help with that. I feel alot of people are not fans of zones scaling, but i feel that, again, wow was getting to that point in retail, where with all the zones to choose from with their specific level brackets, it was getting difficult to balance the whole leveling process around each specific leveling bracket with each of the different zones. So we have the choice now of where we want to level up now, which in the long run works better.

With classic on the horizon, especially thinking about how wrath of the lich king worked, it had a skill floor. But it also still had a relatively high skill ceiling as well. And to me in retail, the skill ceiling is still to low, and the skill floor is also to low. The goal is to attract as many players as you can. To appease the hardest of the hardcores, while still having stuff that is fun for the casuals. I feel like wrath did this the best in my op. It was easily the most popular version of the game.

I mean, to me, shadowlands actually was looking really, really good upon release. Above all the stuff going on internally with blizzard, which was really a shame, i had pretty high hopes for shadowlands. I mean, it truly felt like shadowlands was a turning point for the evolution and longevity of the game, because to me, at least, that was part of the problem with retail as well, and the same thing with classic. To alot of us, the game just is not new anymore. Like, it isn’t. And regardless of which version of the game you are playing, access to information is rediculously easy to come across now. The truth is, with any form of entertainment, it is going to cause things to get stale quicker. Because the more you know, and the quicker you know it, will cause the staleness to happen quicker. I mean, wow has always universally been the same grinds over and over and over. But, for alot of people, once they have all that knowledge, and they have experienced the repetition for a while, they are not going to want to experience the same repetition after a while. I do not feel like that is something blizzard can 100 percent control either.

The truth is, i feel like shadowlands can still land back on it’s feet. With all the stuff going on within blizzard internally, that is the biggest problem right now. I mean, the truth is, alot of people like myself, we love world of warcraft. Like it is an amazing game. We do not care that it is old. It is fine if the game is repetitive as all heck, and i do not know exactly a solution to solve the age problem of the game, but i do know that generally, as long as the content is awesome. The quality is there. We have some of the stuff being done, that kind of mirrors where blizzard was at in wrath of the lich king, then i feel like wow still has a chance. Right now, for me, i feel like at least having an option for leveling, as one who doesn’t mind doing it, to at least have the option of there being a more hardcore version of the leveling process. The goal is to get to the end game max level. The theme park. Everyone wants to ride the rides. Even if the game is 20 years old, who cares if it is old and repetitive. But blizzard needs to kind of get their stuff together though at the same time with the work environment stuffs. I feel blizzard does need to listen, in moderation of course, to the players playing the game. They cannot accomodate everyone obviously, and i mean, they need to stamp out comments and players that are just being entitled, and not constructive as well. Blizzard want’s to have an even bracket of players that are satisfied on both sides of the coin. Right now, it just is not there. I want to see this game get those numbers that wrath had. I do still feel like that is possible. Blizz just has to play their cards right. Even now as i am typing this, there isn’t even a blizzcon for 2022 planned at this point. Even the blizzcon has been canceled.

In conclusion, i still feel like blizzard can make a comeback. It will be difficult, but it can be done. Chromie time was an amazing concept. It eliminates the whole inflation issue of leveing and having to many abilities and skills per class etc. While some may not like the scaling introduced in legion, which is even more apparent with chromie time in shadowlands, it just feels wierd leveling in a linear fashion for 300 levels. It gives you the freedom, with all the stuff added to the game over the years, to level how you want to. Only problems for me is that the skill cap and the skill floor in retail are still to low. I mean, leveling is a bit to easy as well, but i would say expand on the feature, so that at least no matter which chromie time you choose, it at least maintains a hardmore. Or something of that nature for the leveling process. Add classic wow 1-60 to chromie time as well and the dungeons from classic wow at the very least. We have the option to zerg through any content we want in the game at this point on our way to level 47, at least let this be an option to choose from. I miss it. Blizzard also does need to listen to the players, and really have less listening to the sides who are clearly entitled, or who are not being very constructive with their criticizms.

I mean, i am pretty passive patient person. If it takes a while to get certain changes into the game, like switching covenants, at least acknowledge that. If it takes longer than normal, that is fine. I remember this in particular being something alot of folks wanted, and it got added a bit to late. But at least we have it back now . I mean, i am a filthy casual these days. I have not really done the progression train since like wrath, so i cannot really say much about end game. But they do need a higher skill cap and a relatively medium skill floor. I mean, i have heard mythics are great. But i remember having to bust my stuff to get anything from raids in wrath. The skilled players still need room to show their skills, while still allowing the semi casuals and the casuals and the absolute noobs to thrive as well. Retail just needs to borrow some elements from wrath from specifically. IT was really popular. Overall, i feel shadowlands has been good, but it still has more it could do. Untapped potential if you will. Blizzard just needs to tap into it.

Wasn’t into the removal of archaeology.

Hard disagree. Their first solution was better. At the end of legion, they let us use currency to buy the legendaries that didn’t drop. That was better than having to craft them or buy them for absorbent amounts.

It might not have been endless, but it was gated to feel endless.

Took them too long to implement. Now it doesn’t matter.

The base effect if them still works it’s only the set bonus that doesn’t. Currently I have a 6. 7k absorb on me and 3 damage sockets in keys so they are still pretty big

Yea. Optional content. Not things that everyone is forced to do.

you and i have very different opinions on the exact things you listed. I would say that is a list of thing they did utterly wrong.

Still dreadful, especially with Legendaries tied into them. And nothing added for Archaeology.

Also dreadful, once again punishing alts, and hybrids until very late in the xpac.

Most people only disliked the grind because it made the alt experience un-fun, and they didn’t make that any better this xpac. So it’s moot.

While this is a good QoL change, it’s incredibly minor. And was not a real big issue in BFA.

(Hate this Buzzword) There were plenty of avenues Blizzard could have taken with this sooner, it’s too little too late to be praised for.

I’m generally pretty ‘White Knighty’ about Blizzard, and I don’t hate Shadowlands by any stretch, but I disagree with you on most of this.

At least for rogues, a legendary effect can change your playstyle dramatically. That’s the type nuanced gameplay I love.

For the next expansion, they should create a more interesting way to acquire them. Choreghast got old real quick.

Agree with the OP. Shadowlands does a lot of things right. And even the things I didn’t like initially seem to be moving in the right direction. It’s much better than BfA.

If it wasn’t for the content drought SL would be regarded as one of the best expansions.

sure, but like a long time ago family went to a restaurant. and 2 hours later the food was still not ready. family left. doesn’t matter that they did everything else right, it just took far too long. (and other people came, ordered and received their meals quickly.)

and thats the problem with Shadowlands, its taken far to long to address anything. the ripcord was always a last resort but everyone knew as they got onto the Shadowlands Airline, that the Plane was taking people up to go sky diving. the expansion launched by sending the sky divers out into the sky. some people found a way to make use of the wing suits. others had methods of gliding down. still some waited before they jumped.

the ground eventually closes in and the call to pull the ripcord came as "wait for it… WAIT FOR IT, NOT YET and then Splat. for some.

others road the updrafts of other games. some pulled it any way even though that means they loose credit for the jump and had to start over.

then finally the ripcord comes but players have already swapped Airlines. others never made it. the few that had gliders and wingsuits are fine but that ground has never looked so close. some have great videos of them narrowly missing mountains on the way down.

such is the state. its not an issue that the Airline couldn’t get the people into the air, its an issue that they didn’t provide enough tools for everyone to glide on down for that long as some only had the ripcord to slow their fall.

/poorly made analogy.

They “listen” to the extent that they know what the playerbase wants. No doubt some barely-paid intern is keeping a spreadsheet on this.

When does action take place? Only after players have left over some issue. Lots of players.

So the idea that they are doing some sort of proactive “listening” and dealing with issues players had because players complained is false. They would have done nothing had large numbers of players had not left over some issue.

I’ll say you are def correct with your example, but the problem is they need to do that with literally everything.

I would add that the problem isn’t just how get a legendary item, it’s the legendaries system in it’s entirety.

They certainly aren’t legendary for one. Compared to the Legion legendaries they are dull and simplistic, or, they are just straight up Legion legendaries.

The entire borrowed power schtick is a fail and they need to scrap it. The covenant system was an extremely lazy way to give everyone a new talent row, and more restrictive. At that point, just add the damn talent row.
