Season of Discovery in my opinion is the best version of WOW. It’s classic, but with 20+ more viable specs and far better itemization and set bonuses. So why isn’t SoD the most popular of all versions of WoW? Well here is my list of mistakes Blizzard made with SoD.
- Starting from the top. The most important and detrimental mistake. The name itself. “Season of Discovery”. The name implies this is just a temporary version and eventually it’ll end. This more than anything kept untold number of gamers away. Why play this version if eventually the season will come to an end?
- Suggestion: Classic+ should not have “Season” or “Temporary” anywhere in its name or description. From the get go, Blizzard should tell us up front how long they plan to run with it.
- Overtuned classes in PVP. The ability to global other players. Everyone likes to pvp, but no one likes to be globaled or griefed non stop
- Suggestion: Remove PVP/PVE servers. Implement War mode so players can turn on and off pvp when they want, just as it is in retail.
- Incursions - Incursions were so good in terms of exp and gold that leveling in the world or dungeon grinding were no long viable options. This essentially emptied the entire world and funneled everyone into 1 zone. At the same time, super OP classes like Paladins and paladins used this as an opportunity to grief people trying to level. It’s not a surprise why most people quit in this phase. It was absolutely miserable. Blizzard later turned the repeatedable quests into once a day dailies but that was after 80% of the player base disappeared.
- Suggestions: Always ensure that world questing and dungeon grinding are the fastest and most efficient ways to level and never have repeatable quests that give exp.
That’s about it I think for me. Feel free to add your own
