…The War Within isn’t over? There’s a new season starting in a week.

Though, they’d have to really screw it up to suddenly make The War Within the worse expansion.

Anyway, the answer is Shadowlands.

My favorite part of Shadowlands is unlocking mounts in the Maw/dispelling the Otherworldy Screeching isn’t account-wide.

Shadowlands was the xpac that made me temporarily drop WoW and play FFXIX instead, so Shadowlands.

Not one other WoW expansion did that for me, even at their very lowest points.

Exact same here, SL was so bad, it made me shelf WoW for a while and check out the competitors, meaning FF14 lol.

Shadowlands. It was a pathetic expansion. At least WoD was incomplete but had some sort of better content.

My answer will never change.

Warlords of Dreanor

It was without a doubt, the Worst. Expansion. Ever. If Pathfinder had never come to the game, and flying was allowed at the beginning when you hit level cap, and Garrison‘s weren’t the central focus, and we got more than just a Twitter feed and a selfie camera as “major content“, it might have been far better. But it lost the most subscriptions in the first year of any other expansion in the game’s history. We went from starting with 10 million people down to 3 1/2 million by the time they unlocked flying and then that dropped again below 3 million in the first 12 months. Anyone who thinks there is a worse expansion in this franchise is delusional.

What made Legion mediocre for you?

Shadowlands was like the worst of WoD + BfA, smashed together.

WoD had a shortened expansion cycle, tons of cut content (Shattrath, Karabor, Ogre Continent), and a story that was just god-awful. Terrible conclusion (Draenor is free!), if you could call it that.

BfA, had terrible systems and grinds (Azerite Armor), and also had questionable writing. (Sylvanas War Campaign)

SL, was basically the worst of both of these, put into one expansion.

Also, it came after WoD and BfA, so it was adding insult to injury because folks assumed the “new expansion can’t be as bad as what came before”.

We were wrong.

The Anima grind stuff sucks, even now lol. They never nerfed it, afaik.

Going back to grind SL cosmetics is something a lot of players won’t subject themselves to, and that’s the mark of a bad expansion.

Usually, players love legacy stuff.

i just put my timerunning char into the maw and there was like 3 different skips i was able to unlock to do it…im pretty sure its the korthia skip that unlocks mounting in the maw because i didnt do any questing and i can mount in the maw now.

Anyways the answer is Shadowlands, although I had a great time in that expansion solely because of my guild

Also Shadowlands, WoD was bad, but as pointed out it was bad cause no content and a bad story… SL topped it by having a WORSE story somehow than the time travel alternate universe expansion AND had content that was legitimate psychological torture.

The worst part is it has enough potential to have the B plots redeemed and taken up going forward, but I don’t see this happening and the closest we’ll probably get is SL remix.

Shadowlands was and still is the worst.

I’d rate TWW in the middle tier, above Dragonflight but below banger expacs like Legion and MoP.

It depends on how much questing you’ve done. And I know it CAN be done but like…you need to open out of game guides on how to get to the point of unlocking Korthia. Sometimes. I have a character who partially leveled in Shadowlands content so they can’t Threads of Fate their way to the end, they are stuck with Screeching.

I also had to look up a guide on how to get Morgraine to appear in Orgrimmar in TWW to start the Shadowlands quest. That was fun.

Shadowlands, by like a million miles.

Other expansions were flawed but had their redeeming factors. Shadowlands almost killed WoW entirely.

I like many others have a personal ranking list of the expansions but despite my dislikes say of this current one, BFA or Cata they all still overall felt like WoW in the settings/themes and the places we went with in those expansions.

Shadowlands once not talking to an old lore character it feels like a different game. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy things from Shadowlands but if the concepts/story was in any other game or its own game I’d have a lot more favorable outlook on it.

But it isn’t. It is a WoW expansion and it reveals the afterlife which I’d say like tame travel is a story telling setting/tool that should be done when it absolutely necessary but avoided on average as it answers questions and those answers might not always be good.
