Here we go again, I am swapping from Monk

In SL I tried monk, didn’t feel strong so I swapped to druid, people came out of the woodwork telling me the same old arguments.

“I play WW and perform well.”

Perform well against who? Stats don’t lie, overall monk performed poorly compared to others back than.

In DF I tried again, got to mythic raiding, went against my first boss and gave up, swapped to paladin and people came out of the woodwork telling me the same old arguments.

“I play WW and perform well.”

Yeh but against who? It was the same old same old, monk was performing poorly. Even had one guy come along and be like “Monks are getting 3K IO, maybe you are bad”, yeh, ONE monk, one entire monk at the time was 3K.

And again in TWW I have tried monk, feels weak, maybe it’s the tank and healer changes I thought? So, I swapped to warrior, and it feels so much stronger, even at 40 iLVLs lower I feel like I can do so much more.

I have tried for 3 expansions in a row, monk is just not that strong overall. MW might be in a good spot if you heal, but that’s it, if you don’t heal or don’t have a regular healing spot you are out of luck, there are just better DPS and tanking options than monk by far.

Maybe I am just not that good with monks, maybe I am not used to a strong self-healing class you say? Currently I am parsing an average 99.4 HPS in heroic raid overall across all 8 bosses and in the past have done mythic raiding on a blood DK.

I want monk to work, but it just doesn’t. Statistically speaking they are the worst class in the game right now and least used overall. Least used does actually have some weighting to this argument, no being least used does not mean people don’t like the RP and flavour of monks, it also means people find monk bad and don’t want to play a bad class.

I like monk, but they are just not good, why should I keep playing something that is struggling when there are better and easier options out there?

Correct, and their theoretical maximum is still higher than the average person pulls on the specs with the best theoretical maximum.

They perform well against peers in practice. If you don’t, you’re either with people who play much better than you, or you’re all playing extremely well and your actual disparity shouldn’t be that wide.

Tuesday brings a bunch of changes for Monks and other classes.

Why? I don’t know. Seems weird to me to change classes so much in the middle of progression.

But I guess try again after Tuesday? Might be good, might still not be your cup of tea.

If you enjoy Monk, that’s why you should play it. Regardless of what the meta is, someone playing a class they enjoy will perform better than 90% of FotM rerollers.

At least that’s my experience.

This is one of the worst arguments yet.

If you are all at the same skill this just means monk will be the lowest of them all.

Strange, since it wasn’t an argument, it was a statement.

WW is not dead last even in parses or sims.

Noi it’s an argument point trying to point out that monk is not bad.

It’s the same as saying “I play well against those I play with” it means nothing more than “Those I play with are bad” and just because you are doing better than those you play with does not all of a sudden mean monks are doing well.

No?

Monk is in a bad spot. I never said or suggested otherwise.

You said:

In other words: “All you need to do is be better than those you play with.”

Is the same argument everyone tries to give, and it’s a pointless statement.

Aside from the fact that statistically I am one of the best raid tanks, so if I am bad what does that make all other BrM?

Your entire post revolves around a repeated statement;

A question I answered. I did not make an argument.

If you want a better idea of this perspective, feel free to look at what people are simming for at the top end;

To me it seems like you’ve decided that Monk is not worth playing due to its performance and nothing stated will change your stance on that.

At the end of the day, it’s a video game. If you enjoy playing something, regardless of if it’s S-Tier or B-Tier, play it. Make it work. You’ll always perform better on something YOU enjoy, not something you’re playing because it’s powerful.

I’m playing a Shadow Priest and they’re in a tragic spot, yet I go toe to toe with some of the stronger classes in the game. Sure, personal skill level plays into it, but I also enjoy the spec and play better because of that reason.

Aside from me stating I want to play monk?

Can’t expect your class to be good especially if you play a melee dps. Want to be wanted for like ever? just roll a mage, all your problems solve themselves, your class designer is awake and even if your class is bad once in a blood moon you still have all the tools necessary to receive invites.

If you can’t make it work after 3 expansions; both before and after changes - it’s okay to accept that something might not gel, but really want it to.

Do you even know what what I said means?

Honestly I would play one of the other 7 classes, except they don’t tank and I enjoy tanking for many reasons. If they gave more tank specs I would swap and find something I both enjoy and is decently strong.

I like monks, they offer a lot, except for when you start pushing higher level content then you just underperform compared to some others.

Like how currently, maybe not after reset, there is some 78% of all healers in M12+ being shaman because of just how strong they are at healing, on the flip side we have currently 4.4% of tanks being BrM, even lower than it was last time I checked.

I am of the opinion that if you’re making your class/spec/role selection based off of what’s currently putting up the most numbers, you’re setting yourself up to be miserable most of the time

Okay… Then play Monk? If you derive all of your enjoyment from statistics and some arbitrary number on a website, then sure, I guess the class isn’t for you. If you truly enjoy the gameplay and the class/specs, then problem solved!

Or as I said, I have tried another class and it feels much stronger, did you miss that part?
