I hoped, I really did, that Blizz would come to their senses and help out the other tanks. This slap in the face of a “buff” we received was a drop of water in an ocean of bad decisions.
I hate warrior - I really do. It is the most boring class I’ve ever played. I originally started this guy just to make myself think “grass is always greener on the other side”. Surely warriors might be SLIGHTLY tankier, but I need to see for myself so that I don’t feel so bad knowing they are roughly the same as all the other tanks. BOY WAS I WRONG.
Literally just charge into a pack, press thunderclap and you have agro the rest of the fight. Press shield block 1 time, and congratulations, you are now tankier than any other tank. Press revenge, and dump rage on ignore pain - rotation complete.
It’s night and day how much tankier warrior feels. I literally cannot believe that this class is allowed to exist. I really hope that other tanks get some love, but for right now I guess I’m just going to continue to gear up this boring prot warrior, because it is just SO much better than all other tanks - even if they are more fun, the power of prot warrior outsines that.
VDH is a good tank, its just not a “stand in one spot and soak damage” type of tank. Kiting around and building stacks of frailty is a requirement and more so the more difficult content gets.
VDH could either use some minor re works to frailty, a DR% increase or just bring warrior down to the rest of the tanks.
Imagine if someone offered you some money. It’s completely free to take this money, no strings attached. They offered $100 bill (prot war), $50 bill (BDK), $20 (prot paladin) $10 bill (VDH), $5 bill (brewmaster), or $1 bill (druid). Which would you take?
Just because one bill contains vastly more money, doesn’t mean the rest are bad. Sure, I’d love a free $20 bill, a 10? sign me up. Even a 1? A dollar is a dollar. But given the choice, why wouldn’t you pick the benjamin?
This week, if you jump into a 4 pack without frailty or painbringer in a a +18 or higher HoV key, you will die or proc your cheat death talent. Playing VDH has been so frustrating for me due to having to manage frailty and painbringer stacks as well as calcified spikes with demon spikes, not to mention sigils, immolation aura, and more… I’m literally dancing for my life while mashing my abilities non stop. Playing prot war sounds like a joke compared to what I have to do to survive.
Every tank in the game except war and monk, the initial part of the pull is the most dangerous. Once you get going you can bank some of your resources for the next pull, but this can’t always be done for myriad reasons. Druid > Takes time to get rage enough to ironfur. Paladin > Takes time to build HP to get SoTR and Consecrate is on the GCD. VDH > Have to build frailty stacks, and get souls to get hp back. DK > Need to build runic power to get deathstrike.
Meanwhile wars just charge in and shield block on the way, bam - full mitigation. Monks have stagger, so there is no burst for them because of the way their mitigation works. So all tanks need to go into a pull with a CD except war and monk. The problem is - VDH doesn’t have any CDs outside metamorphosis (and meta causes drom fel dev). Having frailty tied to our mitigation is really stupid because it doesn’t address the burst damage you take before you get it set up. IMO frailty should be tied to us, not the enemies, and have demon spikes gives a few stacks that fade on use. This would make it so when we jump into a pack we have a little more mitigation before we can start building up our self heals and frailty stacks.
yep, thats the whole play of prot warrior clap over and over and over… the amount of thread that warrior do to just run and thunderclap vs a dh jumping to a pack is SO MUCH DIFERENCE!
i started tanking with warrior, back on the days, when you needed to ‘feel’ that you got the enemy, when you had the 3 talent trees and you cant even respect.
also in PVP prot warrior is something else, can charge bash you darn! is impressive
You’re not even max level yet. Scaling is off while leveling. Get to max level and actually do some challenging content on your war before posting threads like this. And to truly do the grass is greener test you should run both tanks through said challenging content to really know.
I’ve got a baby resto Shaman that just leveled this weekend, and started the M+ grind for gear and vault. Got up to a 10 key, so nothing to challenging yet, enough to were you might start seeing if a class is just terrible or not. I healed a few VDH and they were all great to heal. Honestly didn’t have issues with any of them and actually started looking forward to healing more of them.
If they decide to nerf warriors, they’ll gut them and it’ll be 2-3 years before they see play again. And some other tank (historically BDK) will just take top spot and top representation and leave the rest of the other tanks holding the bag again.
It’d be way better to have every other tank spec buffed so people can have fun on the tank of their choice rather than chasing the musical chairs of “what’s the new meta this patch?” until it inevitably ends on BDK.
This is simply wrong. You pulled 5% out of your behind.
That something “can” be done does not mean the effort, difficulty, or likelyhood of doing it is equivalent, or close.
If there was a 5% difference between the best tank and the worst tank, in terms of actual moment to moment strength, not what the best players can get out of it on their best runs, everyone would play whatever they like. 5% is not enough to massively shape a meta.
You seem to be obsessed with something being “good” or “bad”, as if the words have intrinsic meaning. Warrior is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the low ranked specs, and it’s not close. It is massively lower effort to achieve moderately better outcomes. The fact that some people CAN do it does not change this fact.
There is no way that someone can log in to wow today, play warrior, play brewmaster, and say the balance between them is ok. It’s not. It’s not close. One feels like driving an ultra smooth Lamborghini and one feels like driving a broken down buggy Volkswagen missing a wheel. The fact that both will get me from a to b doesn’t make them equal.
You realize that BDK was good for season 3 + 4 in SL because of the tier set right? Historically Blood DK is mediocre or bottom of the barrel. They’ve only been top dog a few times in all of wow history. This is coming from a guy who’s mained BDK since MoP and quit playing him in season 4 because of how boring spamming heartstrike was, and I don’t like the changes where you have to fight in death in decay in dragonflight.
I might boost a prot warrior. Been veng and/or havoc since legion. Missed most of BFA but played almost all of SL. I never felt like at any point I’ll just get deleted in certain spots, even with meta up. Happened last night in Nokund on the hills before 3rd boss. Lead with fiery, popped spikes, and jumped in, waited, fel dev, stuff still up and 5s later, deleted. It was a 16. Could say missed some kicks but they are immune to sigil of silence and AoE stun. Deleted through meta.
I even tried kiting, but they just stood and shot at range. It’s just frustrating. I’ll keep at it but I might really try a prot warrior to see how much smoother this is.
TBH I felt nothing but sadness by rerolling. All the places I struggled at before were not just mildly easier - but a complete joke. Walking around at all times with 55% phys mitigation before even pressing anything is a huge deal. 100% uptime on shield block negates soooo much physical damage, and then 1/2 of all that is negated with ignore pain. You take so little damage its ridiculous.
I honestly can’t believe people defend prot warrior. The only thing I can think of - is that people love being op so they don’t want to lose their power.
