So I tried to find an updated post on this, but most everything I’ve seen was before TBC launched; maybe I’m just bad at searching.
So I just got my epic flying mount after finishing all my quests, and now I’m trying to decide which of these two gathering professions to use for money making. Obviously I’m working on getting my tailoring maxed (I’ve neglected it while leveling), but now I’d like a gathering profession to make gold with as well.
Assuming nodes are available, which of these two is currently netting the most gold? That includes leveling it from 1 and then farming at max skill in Outland. I feel like the answer is probably mining, but I’d like to get some input before committing to leveling one.
Thanks in advance, sorry if this has been asked already!
Individual herbs are a hell of a lot more valuable than individual ores, but in my experience, there’s more consistency in mining. Plus, if you’re dungeon spamming, you’ll get a decent amount of ore, whereas you’ll almost exclusively get Ancient Lichen.
herbs will always be used for potions/elixers/flasks, ore will always be used for prospecting gems. whichever costs the most on your server is probably the go to route.
and mining can be leveled faster via prospecting, but that takes a bunch of gold
Herbalism seems like it’d be a massive pain to level from scratch at max level whereas with mining you can do a lot of it just by buying ore and smelting it.
Not so much concerned about leveling it. Riding around old world and collecting herbs is pretty peaceful so it doesn’t bother me. I’m mostly concerned with which will net me the most overall gold when it’s maxed
It probably depends on your server economy. Don’t have a max level miner yet so can’t speak for that, but I’ve been able to make a decent amount of gold herbing on a med population server. Herbs sell well since people are making consumes and you get a decent amount of Primal Life in the process.
