Am I alone in considering this a legitimate route? I feel like having two gathering professions is actually the true “adventurer” combo. Where’s the time in learning how to be a craftsman when you’re busy out there exploring the world? You’re out there learning the various geology, flora and fauna that makes it up.
Once I am done finishing profession work in filling out the mage mog tab I will probably consider swapping to this combo. After so much crafting it’ll probably feel nice no longer giving a damn about it. xD
Herbalism/Mining just seems practical for someone who spends a lot of time out in the open world. Gather what you need for raiding mats, have your resident guild alchemist turn them into consumables, and sell the rest. Part of me is kind of reluctant though because after all that gathering, all you really have to look forward to is throwing it all on the AH; can’t look forward to turning them into stuff, there are fewer profession related quests in the game, and such.
Funny enough I am also considering that same route for Classic, despite it being much harder (less nodes, can’t see more than one type of node at once).
I have numerous toons that are pure gathering. It’s also handy for some extra XP while levelling. The problem of course is what to do with all the expulsom from Scrapped gear? It’s just dead weight for now. Well, its a spot in my reagent tab.
well considering the only crafting skill worth taking is alchemy now. You might as well just herb and mine. Used to be all the different crafting skils, gave you something for end game, and enhancement to your character. Now they are all lackluster and pointless.
Eh debatable. Engineering is useful as well, and it will sting a little when I give that up. Nitro boosts have gotten me out of some hairy situations in PvP, extra portals are nice, and Jeeves is great to have for farming.
For PvP = engineering
For Raid = Alchemy = double duration for flasks and elixirs, 2 hrs instead of 1 hr
If tank? then Enchanting is good since one can farm enchant matts with tank queue
Main likes to do outdoor stuff like doing all the WQs everyday? then yeah herbalism and mining is good.
One gathering + one production is good for balance I think, since we will all be farming the WQs for AP anyways. We might as well make use of the running along the way.
For sure, that’s what makes it tough. Few things can get me as an engineering arcane mage. Toyed with a raid group at one of the tortollan WQs by myself yesterday because of nitro boosts + the underlight angler. It was fun.
But I also raid and atm I am using legion potions because I can’t afford or gather for the BoA ones. So it’s a tough call.
Eh, just not compelled to level/play alts anymore these days. The only other 120 I managed to get up these days is only because I was curious about the Alliance side of the story. I can’t bring myself to do an alt just for gathering.
Well then, it looks like you are gonna have to make a choice. Do you like PvP more or PvE? If I were you, I’d go for herbalism + Alchemy.
That’s cuz a lot of the stuff that the engineering offers, mages already have them as skills, like portal skills, slow fall etc…
Adding some extras like nitro-boost or stun bombs is nice though. It really depends on what you prefer.
Very true. I do genuinely like Mining because I like geology and things related to stone and metals in real life so I am tempted to keep it simply for that alone. xD
Alchemy/herbalism is a combo I have genuinely thought about as well, but I figure I can just take herbalism and have other alchemists make the stuff for me with those mats.
You are correct on the engineering part as well. The only thing I’d really feel the loss of is the nitro boosts. Escaped some pretty bad PvP situations with that. The other things I use from engineering are gliders and Stealthmen, which I can just keep making in the garrison anyway.
That is perfectly fine. My only problem with that selection for mains, is several patterns only drop from group content. With the double gathering professions your are unlikely to see the rare drops.
I am trying to figure out what to do with my professions. I haven’t really bothered leveling my Zandalari professions. I maxed out mining and engineering every expansion before this but now with engineering I just…don’t know if I should bother. There isn’t much interesting that it offers this expansion.
I should give it up.
…But I get so much use from gliding…The struggle is real, engineering brother.
I have my DH with those but it’s an alt. Just because it’s easier to farm on one toon. With the coarse leather barding, monel-hardened stirrups and my water walking mount I never get dismounted and can keep moving. So much more efficient to do both at the same time while staying mounted.
