Herbalism in Classic WoW

I know that most issues are related to us being forced on to mega-servers, but I would like to discuss how much being an open-world herbalist kind of sucks atm.

Diremaul runs have greatly reduced the amount of profit to be made from open-word herbing, while the demand was high before Diremaul came out, it was still manageable. After DM came out it tanked the prices on high-end herbs by 40%-60%~ crushing it for people that actually enjoyed herbing, rather than doing solo DME runs. I imagine there’s a good amount of cross-over between bots spamming DM and the price crash.

Then, the elephant in the room is Black Lotus. I have spent a good amount of time going over other threads with people complaining about Black Lotus, and have tried to form an opinion that’s somewhere in the middle. The biggest complaints I have seen are as follows:

  • Too many people on the servers to support the demand
  • Too many bots to be able to compete for Black Lotus
  • Too much competition in general to compete for Black Lotus
  • The % increase in Black Lotus did nothing

The counter points I see to the Lotus issue is that

  • It is a high level consumable, meant to be expensive
  • No changes
  • The content is easy enough to do without Flasks
  • Just farm the gold doing other things

Personally, I don’t think it’s fair to have an entire profession nearly ruined just because of the circumstances we find ourselves in. I might be exaggerating, but as someone who enjoys herbing, it does feel pretty lame at the moment.

One thing I have NOT seen is anyone nowadays complaining about the changes implemented in 2020 to ease the pains of Black Lotus. Some people want the SoM/SoD Black Lotus changes, but I feel those are too drastic and against the spirit of Classic in relation to Black Lotus. What I can suggest is a similar fix to what was done in 2020, but with a bit of a twist.

Rather than just increase the amount of nodes and increasing the spawn time, add 2 or 3 more zones that Black Lotus can spawn in. This eases the Black Lotus issues in a more classic way. People can Herb out in the world, without having to hit every node in hopes that a Black Lotus spawns with their Mountain Silversage or whathaveyou. This gets people out in the world, adds a fix that people can visualize, rather than just a % change that people won’t notice, and creates more authentic classic moments…

I would love to hear other peoples thoughts about herbalism in its current 2025 state. Maybe you believe it’s not an issue, maybe you have another solution, but in my opinion something needs to be done!

I willing to bet the devs don’t care and the fan bois will defend Blizzard and flame the OP.

Something can be done, its a player problem and a player solution.

Simply re-roll on Era and dump that nasty Anniversary server habit.

It is entirely not a ‘player problem’. If I wanted to join Era and just get carried through content with people BiS’d out of their mind for the last 4 years, I’d come to Era.

I like Anniversary because there’s a lot of new and experienced players raiding together without GDKP. It leads to actually having to work together to complete the raids. Having to teach the new players about mechanics and boss fights. If I wanted to set out and do Naxx in a month, I’d come over to Era and get bored of the game in 2 weeks.

Good argument dude! Totally useful!

edit It’s Blizzards problem for forcing 5x the amount of people that should be on a server. Not our fault resources are low when we’re competing with every single other player that wants to play a Classic ‘fresh’ experience

think getting black lotus is hard get a blue sapphire, first u got to find the thorium which is annoying as hell sometimes u might get 2 in ungoro in about 1 hour then u got a .7% chance of getting the BS. Anyone that got all them arcane crystals in the first 2weeks to craft stuff you know bought gold

it really is absurd how gromsblood is like 20 silver or whatever. that’s supposed to be a relatively valuable herb :expressionless: the DME farming is really out of control

leveling on era is great, dude :expressionless: you can just like, not group with BiS lvl 60s you know

I dropped it fairly early into the server. Other than newb herbs i was seeing almost zero herbs whole tracking in non-instanced zones.

More than once i was sure id forgotten to turn tracking on…nope. Just no herbs.

Buying gold is a player problem.

Gold buying because players are lazy = bots and professional services turn up on the servers who’re infested by gold buyers; so called “players” even tho they pay to not play.

Everything experienced on NightSlayer is 100% a player created problem and not a Blizzard created problem.

you’re exagerating. things like Grave Moss and Blindweed still sell fine and are available. If you like herbalism you can make it work with a little ingenuity and market-know-how.
