Looking at the herbs on Whitemane AH and its insane. Mid lvl herbs go for like 100g a stack.

If I can get just one 20 stack within an Hour or more then its worth it at those prices.

Herbs are expensive because youll never find one in the wild. There are a billion bots snagging them up all day and night.
If herbs were easy to get herbs wouldnt be so damn expensive.

Well, you may have luck getting them from instances if you’re max level.
Stranglekelp also from water areas as a druid.
I do kinda wish I would’ve rolled druid for herb but I just don’t want to play the class atm. I have herb on my hunt so I feel like that’ll be the second best gathering class.
I can’t speak for Whitemane, but you actually do find them now and again on my cluster, especially in off-peak hours. I’m actually not sure about bots… I’m sure there are some on my cluster but the majority of them seem to be in Dire Maul? If I go do laps of EPL, depending on the time, I acually do find herbs.
I think the reason Herbs are so expensive though is because everybody and their dog buys gold in Classic. This just drives the prices of things way up. If your intention is to get an epic mount these days, it’s very easy to do… a little bit of farming and you’re set. Of course, if your intention is to raid and meet the rather insane expectations people have, good luck… what seems like a massive amount from selling a stack of herbs is a drop in the bucket 
For whatever it’s worth, you don’t need a max level druid to gather stranglekelp. There’s a few other lucrative herbs in the leveling process too.
With that said, as a hunter I believe you can legitimately solo farm Dire Maul: Tribute, which is a pretty good money maker isn’t it?
I’m more than fine with putting on music and gathering for hours. Just gotta get the gathering addon again so I know the optimal routes to take.
The real trick is in importing them.

#1 This toon I post on is on Earthfury Era. That’s because I wanted it there but if I wanted to I could get all the herbs I wanted pretty much uncontested (except black lotus which gets fly hacking bot-farmed). Then there are free transfers off so you just send the herbs to a level 1 and transfer to Whitemane and then sell. There is some controversy to doing this but on a server with nobody using the resources I don’t see the harm.
#2 I have a hunter on hardcore Skull Rock level 60. I can circle WPL and I’d only do this while not half asleep but I can get like 3 plaguebloom stacks plus dreamfoil, sungrass, and mountain silversage in an hour. The same can be done here, the herbs get sent to a level 1 and free transferred off. You can even buy a lot of things for cheap in general and free transfer off.
Of course, both require leveling to get there. I have not been doing this on either toon but I am weird and like to resource farm. I also like wpvp while doing so and Whitemane is the only place that’s happening. This is the trick I was referring to. Also, things might calm down on Whitemane with SoD so I’m not really recommending doing this at this point.
Yea I’ve always known thats a things but I have no idea how to do it. Definitely going to look into it when I hit 60.
