yall are way to focused on “names” and it shows
Really hope they go hard on fire vfx effects for Avatar of the sun. Has the potential to go so hard if they do it right.
Pretty disappointed templar tree has nothing affecting templar strikes or templars verdict… i mean come on.
After seeing Herald of the Sun and Templar, Lightsmith looks like it’s going to be DOA unless they make some real changes.
Alright, gotta give it to Blizzard. Both Herald of the Sun and Templar looks incredible. At least on a first glance.
Yeah, Templar is pretty much exactly what i imagined Lightsmith to be, and why i previously believed Lightsmith was meant for Ret/Prot.
names is supposed to represent what the tree’s feel.
Templar could be renamed zealot for what everyone cares, and we still wouldn’t feel it.
Shoulda been named hammer bro lol.
maybe for holy, but for prot it might work. The arms could be picked up yourself, with if you use bulwark, means self mitigation from an extra button.
Sorta. I think we’re reaching a point of “Death of the Author” when it comes to deriving information and themes from names on this forum.
Maybe, but the name of the tree is more meant to represent what the tree is about.
I feel it more represents zealots then what a templar is. Just my opinion though.
and templars use hammers historically? in wow lore templars were always just “better paladin or priest” the name is fine
That is what gaming media represents them as. They actually used a multitude of weaponry. This includes lances and swords while weilding sheilds.
and they also use hammers. so again whats the problem?
except everytime people mention templar “history” they strictly mention irl history. confusing it for wrong media imagery. templars used hammers, templars are a master of all weapons, asking for a name change because it doesnt fit YOUR fantasy while fitting in game and irl lore and history is just reeks of “you issue”
During the crusades, the most used weapon is spears. This is due to the weapon having the largest reliable range aside from war bows and war arrows, and easier to train people with. It is also the weapon easiest to use mounted on a horse.
The reason people is hamstrung on “templars and crusaders uses maces” is on the theory that they did to not shed blood. Which is dumb, because they are much more destructive on the body then a sword or lance was.
Please go to real historians and ask them. Don’t ask news, movie, show, or other fiction media to base your claims. There is plenty of weapon theolagists on youtube that knows about mid-evil weapon martial arts on youtube too if your lazy.
if you REALLY want to go balls deep in history then the most used weapon wasnt the spear, it was range bow and arrows. you are confusing calvary men for templars with your mention of spears and horses.
swords were to expensive and spears were only reserved for the riders, most used bows and arrows to “rain hell” from the back of the lines while the ones that did get upclose and personal actually used these

or morning stars, since they were more accessable and did more damage upclose than spears. “War hammers were used by knights as auxiliary weapons during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, after body armor of plates had made attack by sword edge almost useless.”
if people actually believed that then their dumb? cause hammers were far more effective tools for breaking shields and armor
kid i should be telling you this, cause its clear that your absolutely confusing history for media templars
en.wikipedia org/wiki/War_hammer#:~:text=The%20war%20hammer%20was%20a,pierce%20and%20ricocheted%20upon%20impact.
No it’s actually not, due to how hard it is to train in them. They where considered a specialized in today’s standards, the muscles that needs to be trained is completely different to training to use close range weapons, and it’s much, much more expensive to train and use bows and arrows, especially the war bow.
Swords was mostly used in close quarters and mostly in self defense, in war spears was used more. You’d see a peace keeper or a citizen use a sword more then a soldier on the feild.
No, if people don’t think it didn’t shed blood, they are dumb. Have you ever seen anyone hit by a 50 pound hammer going at high speeds before? They break bones, causes hemorrhages, and some maces had spikes, so you also get pierced by some. In fact most templars in media is portrayed with a spiked mace. BTW the weight listed is somewhat on the light side, most maces/hammers are much more heavier, which limited it’s use even more.
I think it’s the other way around bruh.
Also, wiki is not a good source of information on this subject as anyone can change it. find an weapons expert that specialize in med-evil weaponry.
and you think the templars of all people didnt train to use bows effectively to help with their crusades? you are actually a drooler
again, the sword and spear fell out of favor when plate came into the picture. so the adaption towards maces were logical as they did MORE carnage to shields and armor than swords or spears ever could. im sorry that your learning in real time that medieval history wasnt all sword fights but rather its people bonking each other with hammers
YES BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL CONSTANTLY CHANGE WIKI PEDIA TO MAKE PEOPLE ON THE WOW FORUMS WWRONG! SURELY. LETS IGNORE THE LIST OF HISTORICAL REFERENCES AT THE END OF THE PAGE. surely people would change those historical reference websites nad articles like they can wiki pedia right? surely TRULY
if your actively rejecting actual historical documentation then theres no reason to continue this conversation at all. i hope templar never gets its name changed and it stays hammers until the end of the world soul saga
They had archers. Just like any army does back then. They trained specifically to use war bows. You know the thing I keep mentioning…
Rapiers are swords that specialize in piercing armor, while it’s martial art focuses on attacking plate armor open spots… there was even other swords designed to go around armor as well.
Spears never fell out of style. As a well made spear on a horse would have enough kinetic energy to puncture plate. Why do you think they made special spears for jousting? So it don’t kill the jousters.
No kid, you are actually. Your also rejecting many european weapon experts in the world too.
and now the conversation is ending here because you went into troll territory with;

So don’t worry about making a response, as I won’t respond to you after this post on this subject.
As hilarious as this back and forth is, I think it’s worth noting;
As far as Warcraft is concerned, Paladin’s primary arm has been hammers or associated blunt weaponry.
So even if they have the name “templar” regardless of what templars allegedly used or didn’t, Warcraft Paladins and thus Warcraft Templars appear to favor Hammers.
Ashbringer.
A single weapon used by at most 3 paladins.
Most paladins used hammers.
Out of the major lore paladins, as far as I know, only uther and arthas used hammers mostly, 3 if you count bolvar before wrath.
The others used swords. That is turalyon, tirion, and the morgraines.
There is no notable paladins that used lances as far as I know of. Or axes.
If anything it’s more of an even split of sword/mace
marrad the draenei that popularized the hammer of the naruu. why are we only counting humans?? dezo the sunwalker he used a hammer, dwarf paladins. the only paladin people that used spears were the zandalari
