Does anyone know if this quest can bug out?
I was unable to use the jar in the alchemy lab. I literally tried using it on every pixel in the lab, twice over. It just keeps saying “Requires alchemy lab”.
Might mean the alchemy labs in Scholomance.

You’re joking right? You think I was trying this in the crafting area of a city or something?

Did you try clicking on the Jar itself?
There’s a specific spot you need to use it. Right as you enter the lab look right. You should see a table with potions flasks etc. there is a pack of mobs right in front of it. You need to clear the mobs and use it by the table.
You have to use it near all the alchemy equipment.
I went back in a second time and it worked. Definitely bugged out somehow before. Either the instance, or me, or both. It worked in one of the exact spots I had tried before. I was literally using the same spot the screenshot on wowhead shows.
