Help with simcraft/raidbots

Requesting some assistance here because I’m honestly stuck. This is where I’m at right now.

I’ve downloaded the simcraft addon, copy/pasted it into raidbots and am stuck at this spot right now.

My goal is to put together two arcane sets of gear out of everything I have; one for raiding and one for M+. I already have a fun casual one I use for PvP and outdoor content (the one I’m wearing now). But at this point I’m really not sure what to click on to figure that out. Anyone able to help me?

(Respectfully requesting that no snarky comments be made about sticking with arcane as a spec. I just want to do the best I can with that.)

You need to select additional pieces of gear and/or azerite traits to be tested.

Too start you can just select all the traits on your current gear.

Then you scroll down and open the simulation options, select the type of sim ( I usually go with dungeon slice ) and run the sim.

I have a lot of gear though and it will only let me sim a small amount at a time. I’m just wondering if I need to do like, say, a sim for my helms, a sim for my shoulders, etc etc and so on.

I’m also having a hard time trying to get it to make a set based on talents/traits I’m not currently specced in. I know what talents I’ll need for M+ and for raiding, it’s just listing the talents I use for PvP and outdoor fun.

You will need to do additional sims to narrow things down. You can open additional windows and run simultaneous sims.

You can shotgun it and fit as much in a sim as you can to get a general idea on things. You’ll get a list of combinations and how much better or worse they did in the sim.

If you want to test traits, best to not mess with gear, control group thing. You can also switch your traits in game, get another sim string and test that way.

IN short, don’t fear the run sum button. Press it see what happens, try something else, press it again.

Alrighty, thanks a ton.

I’m trying to narrow it down by putting together the azerite sets I’ll need for each platform (explosive echoes for M+, galavanizing spark/equipoise for raiding) and then trying to go from there.

I’m also wondering about the whole corruption thing. I’ve been doing the best I can trying to remain “pure” (not going above my resistance) but I can’t tell whether I’ll be better off actually taking on some corruption. If the gear I currently have is worth doing so or not.

For my class 25-39 corruption is recommended (for heart of darkness), 40-59 if you’re very confident at dealing with the thing from beyond, 60+ not recommended.
It depends on your personal ability and your spec’s ability to handle those corruption affects consistently.

Yup I just thought to ask the mage discord about that one and they tell me I can go to 59 easily. Which is fortunate because going through all my azerite pieces, there is in fact one heart of darkness trait in there. Thanks for the response.

Pretty much this. Enchants/gems usually eat up the most combinations so I would PERSONALLY ignore simming them until last or just go off stat weights at the end if you want to stay at the 300,000 tier.

Even after paying for more I still sometimes run multiple tabs at once.

Worth noting I PREFER hectic add cleave over dungeon slice. Dungeon slice has been buggy from time to time it feels.

Atm I’m stuck trying to figure out which stats I need for a M+ setup and which stats I need for a raiding setup, hehe. From there I can probably narrow the gear choices down a bit more and just focus on simming trinkets and the like.

I just click on the various armour pieces that I’m not sure of and use an app called azerite weights for quickly choosing what to pick since they all have numbers on them in game on top of the choices. I only SIM azerite Traits when I have duplicates selected on different pieces since sometimes the azerite procs don’t add up if you have two of same, other times they do add. Yes, for gems I check the raidbot block for getting my personal stat weights, which is usually same as icy veins, but not always. There is also a small app called stat weights that puts the icy veins recommendation above the character view box in game. I only had one character that didn’t follow the stat weights from icy.

The only thing I always guess wrong is the essences. So often a level 1 is better than a level 3.

By accident once I forgot to look at the corruption weight and threw on too much corruption because in a hurry as was getting summoned to a mythic and screwed up.

I know what azerite traits I need for M+ (explosive echoes) and for raiding (galvanizing spark/equipoise). I’ve also got the essences down.

I just need someone to tell me what stats I need because that’s the part I’m majorly stuck at right now. xD

Haven’t messed with that one, will give it a look see.

They all need to be taken with a grain of salt. The sims are a great place to start but it’s still very worth while to do some sanity checks with A/B testing on target dummies.

They don’t take into account play style and imperfect timing.

Well yeah obviously. Sims assume perfect conditions where you don’t miss globals and procs are actually favorable. I sim way higher with VoP as Destro, but the RNG gods hate me so I use Lucid in raid outside of super heavy AoE like Hivemind.

You can also sim like light movement 5 targets over 2 minutes or whatever and it works fine too. All that really matters for simming AoE is having more than 1 target present in the sim. I just say 5 because that is probably the “average” pack size in a key (and I think is what is simmed for hectic add I don’t remember).

That’s basically simming for M+, right?

I’m honestly having a lot of trouble with all of this and part of me is just tempted to give up, slap my highest ilvl stuff on and call it a day.

This is what I would select if I wanted to sim Explosive Potential on my Helmet versus Baleful Invocation on my helmet. Select both and the program will sim both and tell you what each one will come out to be.

That’s it.

This is at the bottom where I used the drop down (defaulted to Patchwerk) and selected Hectic Add Cleave which is ~5 targets with light movement which is pretty much what you will generally see on keys.

I guess I’m having a hard time deciding where to narrow things down. Since I have multiple pieces of gear for each slot I figured I need to find out where my stats were for M+ as arcane so I can narrow them down.

Also do I slide the corruption bar to 59 if I want it to say that is the limit of corruption I want to take on?

Yes, I’ve changed specs back after simming, because I just prefer certain spells, and in the miriad of mechanics, I don’t always have time to focus on power bars type mechanics. I may get them right on target dummies. I often switch back to a more easy mode with more passives if the DPS is really close.

Don’t pick a high DPS SIM if it has more corruption than resistance. Possibly 5 over or so, but you will constantly die if too much corruption.
