Help with Rogue decision for main

Hello. I have been wanting to main/play a rogue for over 3 years…

The problem is, I solo about 95% of the time because of my schedule. No M+ or Raid gear, all quest stuff and occasionally some higher end stuff from the AH.

I have a 60 boost and I don’t want to “waste” it if I will be getting killed every other pull and can’t solo effectively. Right now I main BM hunter and Havoc DH, and those are both stellar for solo…I get Rogue wont be close to those, but is it viable at all?

Compared to BM with pets and DH with a tank spec to use, rogue is quite a bit more frustrating to solo. However, it can be fun to play something that is way different than the 2 you mention. You have to plan your moves and know when to run away when you take on more than you can chew.

If you enjoy just being relaxed and doing hunter things, then rogue is not that. If you want a character that plays with a bit more challenge and finesse, then maybe it will work for you.

TBH Rogue is probably the worst Solo PvE class in the game. Their tactics don’t work in solo… If you vanish the mob will reset so you cant reopen on a PvE mob… Now that said if you spec into all the healing/leech available in the new talent trees it may be quite a bit better.

Rogues playstyle/design just doesn’t lend well to SOLO PvE unless you want to run around and pick pocket basic mobs while farming.

What do you mean by viable? Is it going to be good for DF or is it going to be good for solo’ing?

Rogue’s aren’t as good as BM Hunters for solo stuff. You can get M+ gear even if you play solo. Either join a guild that does plenty of M+ or just solo Q yourself / with a friend who is available around the same times. Reason why I am talking about M+ is because I’d see more viability playing it in a mythic + setting than using it to solo content.

If you do end up deciding to play a rogue though, Tauren rogues with Thunderfury look awesome as Outlaws lol.

And all that said, you can also wait until the DF expac starts out to decide whether you want to play rogues. It really depends on what kind of a setting you’re planning to play them in. In PVP, they’re awesome! Esp. open world or bg’s, they’re my favorite.

Black Mage. Its a really good job to play.

hmm I might look into that then, thank you.

Unfortunately i have to instalog, without any warning, multiple times. Im on alert 24 hours a day and this is just unavoidable. Committing to even 30 mins for an M+ run isn’t likely and the risk of abandoning that group is far greater than staying in it. So only thing I can do is solo at this point.

Yeah if I go Rogue I want to start now as I will have 25ish days to learn the spec for both PVE and PVP, but primarily PVE.

As I have stated, soloing… however, i will be soloing in DF more than likely… so both

Don’t go with rogue if you want to solo.

If you really want to keep stealth a druid is a much better option. Feral is more durable than a rogue and you can even swap to tank in order to take on even more/stronger mobs.

I’d suggest a monk. They have a fun rotation, even with the recent nerfs they’re still strong.

Uh, what exactly are you going to be soloing? I mean if we are talking normal mobs here, any class in the game can do that lol.

I know it’s not exactly the same thing… But if you’re looking for a survivable “rogue” then Feral druid is probably the way to go.
It does a lot of the same things as rogues (Stealth, Stealth openers, Combo point generation, combo point spenders, energy management) but it has healing skills and stuff too.
Also, on the brightside, if you eber decide you want to mix things up you can always swap to Balance and be a ranged caster.

If you’re looking for a any particular rogue skills or specs in general, then its probably not the best solo spec (I’m sure it can be done though… Maybe take alchemy as a profession for potions to make your life easier) but if you just like the idea of being a stealthy boi that does big damage and makes people bleed, then you will have a lot of fun with Feral Druid. Druid is absolutley amazing for solo content… Personally i prefer Feral Druid to Rogues… i like their skills and they feel smoother… but that’s just a personal preference and playstyle thing.

Cool thing about rogues is that you can stealth and sneak past enemies, instead of killing them. You can pickpocket and open locks. It’s fun to BG, where you can sneak behind enemy lines. I also personally like assassination playstyle where you wear down opponents with dots.

I’m not sure if it’s fun in the modern retail solo content though. There’s a lot of just power cleaving everything down. Rogue’s stealth might not be that fun in outdoor solo PvE.

Hi, I solo and those are my main classess as well except Vengeance DH (just like really kicking booty), but I tried a rogue 3 times before it stuck. I love her as an alt. It took a while to get used to the many cd’s. She’s very much more cautious and mobs are a snitch to get through. Also, the first 10 levels are difficult. Getting used to her rotation in different circumstances is a challenge. I definitely wouldn’t recommend boosting her until you have at least a few basics down pat.

She’s a lot of fun, but you can’t stealth through quite everything

Everytime I change over to her at first it’s relearning a new class, but changing over to her definitely keeps both sides of my brain working. She is fun - get used to slower, but more finesse game play.

Ive come to notice that i can actually do that in Legacy raids. At least argus and Aggramar didnt complain about me vanishing. And i think i did that too on a regular mob, you just have to hit instantly again.

However OP seems to want something like a Druid.

Edit: Yes i can vanish regular mobs and keep them in combat no problem.

Yes, every spec is more than fine for solo/world content.

It’s like 50/50 that say yes and no lol… strange. It really seems to me to be all about gear and skill to determine viability. Though I could be wrong. I think if I was a Mythic plus and Raid person I would be fine with Rogue, but as only quest gear and AH gear, might be a little rough. I would put my skill around the 75% range… though since I will only be doing questlines, WQ’s and stuff like that I may be just fine.

I think that some specs are easier and more relaxed depending on the content. Gear is obviously never bad, but it’s not there’s any specs that can’t do the overwhelming majority of content.

I love my assn rogue, never have problems putting down mobs

Havent touched the new talents yet for my rogue, but I’ve enjoyed the outlaw spec. Seemed to work just fine in solo PvE.

I haven’t done the new assassin talents yet but my Outlaw rogue can solo open world content just fine.

You wouldn’t use that rotation in solo play - certainly not if you’re playing Outlaw spec. It’s capable of laying out enough damage while mitigating through Evasion, interrupts and stuns, and self-healing.

I will admit I have not played Rogue in several expansions so the vanish reset in PvE has changed since my time… It definitely used to reset PvE mobs instantly.

Ye that used to be case. I noticed it randomly a couple weeks ago on Argus but paid it no mind. And just tested to verify my post here.
