Help with looting & skinning please

I’ve only been playing for about 2 years. For the most part the game is a free for all with regard to everything related to the topic. What I mean is, every single thing I am fighting, fishing, gathering or skinning seems to be fair game for anyone. I’ve gotten use to it but then comes the dynamic of “groups” and the rules are different. What I’m confused about is how do solo players disrupt the process for a group? So lets say there is a 4x4 skinning group working an area. How does a solo player mess up there skinning if they are not attacking their kills but only skinning after the group has killed and looted? I’ve been told it messes up there skinning skin? Which I don’t understand and can’t find a thing anywhere explaining that information. Is there a writen or true explanation about this topic? I’m just trying to understand not trying to debate the issue. I find it confusing how when someone is solo playing, everything they encounter is an open target for anyone but when it comes to groups the rules are not the same at least according to some. Just looking for the reasoning (with proof) and so I wont disrupt or bother any groups or anyone.

i have been complained to by skinning groups before. i was solo farming. I don’t think there is any issue anymore with multiple tags on individual mobs

I have never heard of a 4x4 but if there is that many of them wanting to try and control the area I would ignore them.

I can think of one way you are screwing them up though and that is with their cd of bait items. You get a cd reduction for each mob you skin. However, that would be pretty messy and inconsistent in that bee/wolf area anyway because you have elites and normal mobs mixed up and the elites give you greater reduction.

I don’t do skin farming in groups either but perhaps some of them actually don’t get skins if you skin. I know I have been in groups farming for mount currency and I can’t always get skins from mobs I tagged - there might be some sort of timer or limit on each mob.

Thank you for your reply and information. I did have a group upset with me. They said nothing to me directly. Instead, comments in local like “reported” and to remember my name. I sent messages to everyone who made a public statement asking what is the problem. Of course that pretty much got no where and finally the leader did reply back but he was quick to just point out how useless I was in the area and I kept saying, please take the time to explain so I understand instead of just being rude. Only thing I got was that when a group is skinning anyone else who skins lowers there skinning skill. Which I didn’t understand. I don’t want to bother anyone nor upset anyone’s game but I just don’t get the attitude.

yeah it’s mostly attitude. they want to maximize their haul. you doing open world content in the open world is the least reportable activity that you can do lol

the only thing that might happen is that you tag and kill a mob before anyone in their group tags it and they can’t skin that singular mob.

I mostly farm skins to chill and there are packs away from the main bee/wolf area that are not efficient for the big groups to farm. the packs on the coast to the north and west. my skinners are also herbalists and there are a couple of herb nodes that are there too.

I ain’t getting to gold cap that way, but just enjoying my time in the game.

Assuming it does mess up their skinning I still don’t really care or think it matters.

Nobody has a monopoly on open world mobs even if they form a party for farming. If a mob dies in my vision that I can skin then if I am on a skinner I am going to do so.

It’s free for all. It’s like people in wm on complaining they are being killed. I remember farming in a group in BFA for Goldenmane and from time to time single players will come and pick mobs. So basically less mobs for the group but whatever, the mobs don’t belong to us. It is what it is.

Too bad for them.

They don’t get to lay claim to all the skins in a zone. 2x4s can whine all they want. I’ve lost all my patience for groups like this since their stupid shardhide skin farms made Korthia even more tortorous than Korthia was on its own.

Yup, if I can tag it, I’ll skin it. Same with what folks leave behind.

What I have found when a skinning group basically overruns me, all the mobs are greyed so I can’t even tag. I’m betting it does the same to them when I keep tagging ahead of them as they overrun my farming spot.
