Ok, so this is sort of an uncomfortable question for me to ask. But I feel like I need to ask it because I’m struggling, especially in PVP.
I severed my index finger on a table saw many years ago and as a result, my index finger on my left hand is limited in motion. I lost the middle joint and can only bend my finger at my hand and at the joint near the finger nail.
This greatly reduces my ability to accurately and quickly use 4, 5, R, T, G, X keys for abilities. In order to reach those keys, I have to pretty much use my middle finger or physically move my hand so I can press those keys with my index finger.
I’m wondering if anyone has a similar experience or knows someone in a similar situation and could share some ideas for how to key bind around that disability but still be able to have the amount of binds needed to be successful.
As some extra notes, I have a Corsair Scimitar 12 button mouse and a Corsair keyboard that’s reprogrammable.
Trying to put my main rotation on the mouse has proven to be very uncomfortable. My thumb and hand fatigue very quickly and it’s too hard to press them fast without accidentally pressing the wrong button.
I though about things like remapping Caps Lock to work like a Ctrl or alt modifier in the Corsair software and maybe that’s the best route. But I’m curious what other folks have to say about this.
Have you looked at something like this?
https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Tartarus-Progammable-Detachable-Mecha-Membrane/dp/B07754PYFK/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=razer+gamepad&qid=1611187487&sr=8-3
You could just flat out ignore using your index finger and have your 3 other fingers float between the first four key columns (left to right).
I used this a while when I had trigger finger for my middle finger and likely beginning carpal tunnel back in 2019 for left hand. Hand oddly doesn’t have issues anymore, I guess I strengthened hand muscles and metered out game play.
Don’t buy one if interested though, see if a friend has one to try it out.
And this can be a hard one but you can try to put your modifiers on your mouse (shift/ctrl/alt). That can greatly expand binds you are comfortable using.
Also you can download a registry editor to change key function. A much deeper solution than just driver, cause honestly who used caps lock for anything these days?

Due to tendonitis in my left hand I mostly just click abilities outside of 1,2,3, with my mouse if you get an addon like bartender you can group them up and put them closer together reducing the movement time.
As poster above said I think an Orbweaver might be your best friend. I’d find a way to try it first as they are not cheap though.
Back in WoD one of our tanks actually was a man whom had a stroke and lost the use of one of his arms. He used a razer naga mouse with 12 buttons and actually used foot pedals as keybinds that were hooked up to his computer. I couldn’t do it, and it was a crazy setup. Perhaps look into something like that? I just checked amazon and they’re about 40 dollars for a 3 pedal set.
try using A-T or A-Y for strafe instead of A-D? that way you’ll have all those buttons in between to use with your middle finger
Pinky on A index on T or Y

Been meaning to get one of those as a push to talk button. Using ctrl while trying to dps doesn’t end up working too well when talking to people
Ctrl? May I ask if you kept using left CTRL from ventrillo days? I know I did. Although yeah, they look pretty sweet.
Yea, get an external keypad (even a numeric keypad), and move it to the left hand side of the keyboard.
Logitech g600 has 12 keys and i use the third mouse button as a cntl modifier… allowing me 24 keybinds
Also the wheel can be clicked left or right for strafing

I would love to use left ctrl like back then but I oddly prefer using a full apple magic keyboard for windows (old apple user and I hate anything but chiclet keycaps). And for some dumb reason microsoft doesn’t let you flat out disable the windows key. So I rebound left ctrl over cmd (which was working as win key), and then moved my ptt to right ctrl. Can’t flip key functions either cause it would still happen, so I have a dead key left ctrl sob.
I presume you were asking me that question. I use caps lock currently as my PTT when it’s required because sometimes I need to activate it while in combat and I don’t find pressing Ctrl with my pinky to be very comfortable.
I remember Ventrillo! The good ole days
All 10 fingers worked great, but I was a clicker. Ironically, it took an injury to learn to key bind.
Yeah I tried using a new one, but I got to used to using left ctrl from vent days. However now I am actually considering these foot pedals. I was also a clicker, I learned to keybind/mouse turn when I kept getting deleted by rogues who simply walked behind me when I tried to cast.
Although on a serious note, I am actually looking into those pedals. It might be worth it to move some keys off of shift that I have to reach for. I dislike reaching my pointer finger to 6 and shift 6 because my hands are somewhat small.

Thank you all for so many great suggestions that I never even thought about. I was super apprehensive to post this because I wasn’t sure of the responses… Thank you!! I’m going to try some of the different suggestions and give each one a little try to see how it works!
