Help with healing!

I’m just coming back to the game after having to deal with RL issues. My friends leveling a Druid and I figured I’d work on my Monk so I could play with him.

I’ve found that I’m absolutely horrible at monk healing. I checked out Icyveins and it stated to use Vivify for healing and to keep Soothing Mist on cooldown. But I find myself not being able to keep up in damage.

I ain’t no proper MW main, but when you say

Do you mean that you’re fist weaving, or incoming damage is too high for you to heal?

As for just healing stuff in general with MW. Spread your Renewing Mist everywhere, and Soothing Mist the tank and keep it channelled. While Soothing Mist is being channelled Vivify and Enveloping Mist are instant cast on your Soothing Mist target.

Use your totem. Channel soothing mist. Soothing Mist will make your Vivify and Enveloping mist instacast AND it won’t interrupt the Soothing channel.
If you Channel Soothing Mist and cast Enveloping Mist (which is a HoT) the Vivify will get a bonus +heal…
Renewing Mist is your longer HoT. It will jump from someone when they are full health to someone that isn’t. Anyone with Renewing Mist will also get a heal from any Vivify casts you make.

Soooooo… If you have a couple of Renewing Mists out and channel Soothing Mist on the tank, tank will get steady heals you can then Enveloping Mist (instacast) adding a Hot heal, you can then chain cast Vivify for mongo heals ALL while channeling Soothing Mist, not to mention all the extra Vivify heals that anyone with the Renewing mist get.

Oh yeah. The instacast only works on the target of the Soothing mist channel. Switch target and you have to move your Soothing.

Here’s the thing: Context clues tell me you’re levelling. If you’re pre-90, you’re gonna have a bad time. Buy some water, spam your spells like mad, and drink between pulls if the tank ever stops. If he won’t stop, say “mana” in chat. Most tanks will pause for their healer to drink.

Once you’re into the big boy levels, look at peakofserenity dot com, specifically their mistweaver discord, and if you follow the advice well, you’ll get to be the very best - like no one ever was.

edit: I also see you’re posting on a 120, so fastforward to the big boy levels part…

I promise, it gets better! As your neck level and azerite pieces improve, so will your healing.

Like Hulamonk said, go for the totem over Chiji. You’re going to get a lot more bang for your buck healing with Jade Serpent. I would also encourage taking mana tea over lifecycles (and when you use it, that’s when you spam your heals). If you haven’t yet, I also encourage you to get a weakaura to track your renewing mist uptime. Having the multiplicative vivifies because of it is clutch.

Peak of Serenity discord is an awesome resource, as is questionablyepic(dot)com. Good luck to you!

I feel like it’s easier to get the hang of something when you go for less active spells and add them in as you get comfortable.

What exactly are you having is with. Keeping people alive is pretty vague.

Is it proper spell usage? Keeping rem on targets? Affective usage of tft?

Multiple factors could be at factor here.

Also are you looking at raid or dungeons, totally different situations as in raids essence font is your binky

Sorry for the late reply, it’s been a long morning.

Mostly dungeons really, I do LFR every now and then, but not often.

I seem to get overwhelmed when the group takes a lot of damage and I have trouble bringing them back up. I try to keep Renewing Mist on cooldown, though sometimes I miss it, and I don’t think I was using Soothing Mist how I should have been, I was mostly using it as a filler and then using Vivify mainly.

Are you using any healing addons? Personally, I love Weakauras and Vuhdo and feel that they help my aging reflexes tremendously. If there is a ton of group damage, I make sure my two renewing mists are up, revival if it’s super low, then vivify the non-RM players to get them up. If I have to move, then I use essence font; however it isn’t ideal to use (that said, during grievous weeks, I’ll take Upwelling).

There is a great guide and tons of info at the Peak of Serenity website.
( They wont let me link it here ) So just google “Peak of Serenity” and it’s the top webpage.

Read all the articles, drop downs, etc. This should get you started. Any questions not answered in there will be in the discord they also have. ( check the website for the link )

Also note sometimes players are just bad and it can make healing rough. Just keep at it and youll be a master in no time!

A few things to change.

Talents
Take the following
Chi burst
Mana tea
Upwelling
Serpent statue

They are a lot better.

How to deal with high dmg.

  1. Make sure rem is on as many people as you can. Because vivify will heal all targets with rem on them. You want to try to pick a target without rem on them to get the most value.

  2. Keep soom going all the time. Cast it before you need to pump healing into a target as it will make the heals instant. It will allow you to heal all targets quickly.

  3. Use tft on vivify to get the free heal.

  4. This one is not as important but can be useful. Ef chasing.

Because the mastery portion of ef is only affected while the hot is on the targets. You can cast ef for 1 gcd than cut it short and go straight into a double vivify mastery proc.

  1. Do not be afraid to pop revival

  2. Mana tea is your friend use it often.
