Hello, I am fairly new at this game and just a few days ago I started to do dungeons. I’m having a problem locking on to a target (I play mage dps) I set focus to the tank and click on the target he is targeting and attack it, but I was wondering if there was a faster way where I don’t have to click on the target every single time. Is there any sort of macro I can use and if so how do they work? Thanks
I just tab-target. Make sure you have target of target turned on, and only attack mobs that are already targeting the tank.
Targeting the tank’s target is only going to get you so far. Target switching is a very common thing in WoW and sometimes you need to target enemies that the tank is not focused on. Macros for targetting are usually only used in certain situations.
What is causing you have a tough time? Do you have enemy nameplates on for easy switching?
I prefer tab targeting, using the focus’s target as a guide. Make sure your enemy plates are on. Maybe download a nameplate add-on like plater or kui nameplates… they have an option to make your current targets plate bigger or a different color than the others - and give you a bit more control over what you are seeing.
Clicking is a bit of a pain.
I will say tab targeting can be wonky though. You want to make sure your not targeting mobs not currently agro’d - as its easy (especially as ranged) to accidentally target something a distance away… 95% of the time you its not an issue at all, but that other 5% can cause problems.
I do have threat plates downloaded, but its hard to click on the target I need to when there 10 or more enemies piled onto each other.
Threat isn’t really much of a problem anymore. Just shoot whatever nameplates are nearby the tank unless there’s a specific mob that needs to die first or get interrupted a lot.
Of course if you’re going to try Classic, you WILL need to hit the tank’s primary target.
Set tank to focus, then make a macro
/target Focustarget
ive got it bound to my middle mouse button
Alternatively you can just double tap F (not in game but I think its F) which will change your focus to the focus of your target (which should be the tank) and then change your focus to THEIR target.
I used to do that all the time back before tank threat became basically unbreakable to make sure I was always hitting the same target the tank was.
