I keep finding myself at times with incinerate greyed out/disabled for what feels like 10 seconds. I’m constantly finding myself with nothing to cast yet plenty of soul shards. I can’t figure out what trait is doing this. I don’t see any buffs when this occurs or an extra action button nor do I see any of abilities morphing into something else.

You’re bugged or something.
Nothing ever makes incinerate uncastable save for being silenced/out of range/line of sight/etc.

This could be it.
Do you happen to have your Incinerate tied to a Macro or something? Or are you using some niche Action Bar addon?
This is a little confusing though. If you have plenty of soul shards why are you casting Incinerate and why aren’t you casting Chaos Bolt?
Oh yea, Im using a macro for incinerate. I bet that’s blocking it from morphing into something else. Something definitely going on, been playing lock for 20yrs, never seen this. Or an elvui bug or something.
Inferno Bolt replaces Incinerate but if you have a macro that is explicitly for Incinerate, it won’t dynamically update to the replacement spell. The same thing will happen for Chaos Bolt with Ruination.
Try something like:
/castsequence Infernal Bolt
/use Incinerate
It’s not greyed.
Like me, you’re using a maco that looks for Incinerate.
Might need to Add a second line below to /cast Infernal Bolt.
But I’m not sure this works with morphing spells. Only with replacement spells.
eg Hellcaller.
Need 2 lines. One for Wither first, second for Immolate. So can use shared toolbars when I switch between Diabolist and Hellcaller.
