I am primarily a console gamer and I’m somewhat new to WoW. I am having trouble with using the keyboard this much and would much rather use a controller. I saw a controller mod online (Consoleport + WOWmapper) and tried doing that, but I can’t get it to work. I tried with both a PS4 and XB1 controller. When I enter a realm, I get a window popping up telling me to rotate the left stick, but nothing happens no matter how much I do it.
Can anyone provide any help with this?
Don’t even bother with a mod to use a console controller. WoW is not playable with it AT ALL.
Keybinding is the best way to play this game. I play both console and PC and even with Minecraft its easier to just use the keyboard, rather than trying to use software to make it feel like console.
If you can type without looking at your keyboard, then you will be able to play with keybinds just fine.
It took me awhile to get used to the keybinds, but that was in Wrath, so Its more muscle memory at this point.
Just my 2 cents.
Before you proceed with this, I would like to ask you to think of a control scheme for;
Inventory
Character screen
Premade group finder
at least 10 buttons for your abilities
Couple more for macros
Movement
Camera
targetting
map
quest log
talent / spec window
crafting buttons
jump
spell book
mount window
Mount keybind
Yeah, no.
I use controller on my PC for some games.
WoW is not one of them. There’s just too much going on.
I’ve only used one non-standard input device (Logitech G13). I wouldn’t use any input device that didn’t have a great application that made sure it works perfectly in any application.
And if you want to use a console controller, get ready to struggle for what most find simple. You just can’t do enough easily. Far too few buttons and crap turning rate.
Console gaming is fun but limited.

I have had good results with joytokey. As for how it played out, i hated the camera, couldn’t get it quite right
No one plays WoW with a controller - too many skills to use and you’d just be dead 24/7. This ain’t FFXIV or ESO with built-in controller support. If you really wanna get good at WoW, learn KB&M
way back when i used a Belkin Nostromo Speedpad, which iirc is now made by Razer in lieu of a keyboard when i gamed primarily from my old laptop which had a lousy keyboard of its own
honestly you probably could play wow using only a controller, the only problem would be accessing menus. ff14 has around the same amount of skills in a job that a class in wow has. only problem though is it will be turbo speed here because of the gcd differences but I’m sure you can pull it off
Honestly, I’m more of a console game myself, but there are so many functions in this game that I see it impossible to play this with a controller.
Bind everything to a 32 key mouse. One hand it.
