Help with a Zandalari Death Knight

Hello fellow RP people. I racechanged my warrior into a Zandalari (name hasn’t updated) with the intention of him being a Zandalari Death Knight. I already have a pretty reasonable excuse:

TL:DR Made a deal with Bwonsamdi to “live” forever, saw Bwonsamdi break a similar deal with the quest “A Forlorn Soul”, figured he was next, ran off to Northrend, begged the Lich King (Bolvar not Arthas) let him serve, and the Lich King accepted mostly to tweak Bwonsamdi’s nose. Now Ju’kahn is a Death Knight with the Ebon Blade.

but I’m not crazy about the edginess. Can you think of other reasons why a Zandalari Troll would be a Death Knight? I’m looking for something that isn’t jokey (He got lost!) but still fits in the lore.

How about:
An “ex priest of Bwomsamdi” that lost faith in the loa of death after seeing him breaking a deal and later seeing how Bwomsamdi stopped answering his prayers because the loa was too preoccupied with getting the Rastakhan line. After losing faith in the loa, Ju’kahn decided to look for answers, travelling through Azeroth (this would be a great place to put other important stories) but once his prayers were answered, it was the Lich king. The LK could be interested in Ju’khan due to his prowess as a warrior, his affinity with death (Due to Bwomsamdi) and his longing for serving.
Or something like that. This is my pitch, hope it helps!

They could be a Zandalari who was captured by Blood Trolls and subjected to some kind of experiment. The result made them into some kind of undead abomination thing. They managed to escape, but weren’t really welcomed back into Zandalari society, forcing them to go out and travel. Maybe they want a way to undo the effects.

Zandalari are like Pandaren in that the base Death Knight story already logically works, but Blizzard has refused to make the class available for arbitrary reasons.

Zandalari are a navy-based society, meaning that any Zandalari could be anywhere in the world if they so wished. This could be any battlefield upon which Arthas tread, making them available for use.

Zandalari were present in the northern Eastern Kingdoms during the Troll Wars, and it is not completetly out of the realm of reason that a well-preserved Zandalari was resurrected when Arthas was storming through Quel’thalas.

Zandalari were present in Northrend and in close contact with the Scourge in Zul’Drak. Arthas was still creating Death Knights at this time.

Most of the time, the reason races can’t be any class is because they don’t want to have a race that has every class as an option.

Which is largely arbitrary and has little or no relation to lore. Blizzard will sometimes justify their choices (Demon Hunters) and sometimes won’t (Zandalari Warlocks). Additionally, until Legion, Trolls and Dwarves could be every class except one (Paladins and Druids respectively). Is that unavailability so vital to the race and story as to continue to enforce the restriction?

I await the day when we are all free to roll whatever we want.

Arbitray, yes. About as arbitrary as any other limitation in the game. There’s no in lore reason why you couldn’t possibly ever have a Blood Elf shaman that fights with a staff and leather armor. Or a priest that walks around in plate armor and wields a sword (like Anduin).

If you’re not going to allow all combinations, at a certain point, yeah, you have to start assigning arbitrary restrictions.

I guess maybe I’ve been overthinking my Dk origin. A Zandalari killed in Zim’Torga/ Dubra’Jin and raised would be much easier.

Don’t necessarily go with what’s easier.

Go with what’s the most fun for you.

To be fair on the Pandaren front I think its less “There are no Pandaren DKs” and more “even among DKs Pandaren are exceedingly rare as not many left the turtle at the time.”
