Ok so… I’m in iLvl 452 gear feel like I’m pretty well geared and I’ve watched all the tutorials about being a BM hunter. When I’m training on the dummy’s I pull maybe 35k DPS on it. I dont know what’s wrong. I keep barbed shot up w/ frenzy. I always use BW on cooldown. Is there a secret trick to pulling consistent high DPS w/ a BM hunter?
You need at least 15% more Crit and triple Dance of death traits, that + multishot trait and maybe 2 primal is usually the play I think. that boosted my ups by about 10-15K. I pull 65-70K average in mythics with 2 DoD, 1 primal 1 multi shot traits and 42% crit.
At what ilvl difference do you take crit vs something say 15 levels better?
I’m currently in my PvP gear but I was running a 425 ring because it was crit>haste socketed, over a 460 ring that was mastery>crit. Crit synergies with BM so well in PvE, it ‘activates’ everything.
Download Hekili add-on to help with rotation. For single target try to get any pieces with crit. Any azerite with dance of death. (The last 2 bosses in new raid drop BIS azerite pieces ) try to get at least one primal instinct trait. Also aim for one rapid reload trait for dungeons and any fight that has a lot of aoe.
Others have pretty much already said it, but gear. The right gear with the right numbers.
And gear enchants and gems to make those numbers as high as possible.
Works for me, anyway.
You need to make sure you’re using Kill Command as often as possible.
Depending on your haste you can get in a rhythm of:
Cobra Shot, some other spell (maybe another Cobra) then Kill Command.
Never do more than 2 cobra shots back-to-back.
Cobra Shot requires 50% more focus than Kill Command and does way less damage. If you have a choice between waiting 1-1.5 seconds before casting KC or casting Cobra Shot now then KC, wait instead of casting Cobra.
For barbed shot, don’t sit on 2 charges of barbed shot, cast 1. You can’t fully take advantage of the Barbed Shot mechanic that reduces BW’s CD unless you are casting barbed shot constantly. By always spending a charge when you max out at 2, you ensure that you can a) earn another charge through a wild call proc b) always have a charge ready to extend the Frenzy buff duration.
Depends on what you consider to be well geared. I find your gear to be severely lacking.
First, you need to set into a build, not half-half like you are right now. The meta build needs high crit, triple Dance of Death traits and One with the Pack. All the azerite gear from Nyalotha has Dance of Death, so even if you just get Normal pieces they will be better than what you’re wearing.
Second, your essences are all wrong and really underleveled. The best major for you right now should be Worldvein Resonance. But if you only have ranks 1 or 2 it’s hard to tell for sure which is best. Level Focusing iris to rank 3 since it’s basically the best minor. Spark of Inspiration is trash so don’t use that. Other good minors are formless void (when in a group), conflict and strife or vision of perfection.
Third, you don’t have any good corruptions. Seriously just farm world quests that drop gear. Even a blue 410 piece will be powerful if it happens to land with a strong corruption effect. You can also just equip more corruption that what you currently have. You’re at 0 when you could be easily over 30 or so. And level up your cloak. You’re at rank 8 when this week the quest allows you to get up to rank 14.
Ring enchants are missing. Weapon enchant is missing. That mastery trinket is pretty bad too.
ilevel isnt all that matters. You need the right azerite traits, right essences, and right stats. Ilevel upgrade doesnt mean **** if you lose certain stats and trade crit for mastery.

I just got some ‘EPIC UPGRADE’ …well a couple of them actually.
Much higher ilvl than what Im wearing but WAY WORSE on the numbers. Literally EVERYTHING was lower than what I already had except for the ilvl number.
