Seriously, I want to have an open mind. I’m not going to list why I think it wouldn’t be interesting, I want to know why people who want it do expect it to be fun.
the short answer is some of us don’t want to be reliant on an ill-gotten bot economy makes the game more enjoyable. everything we do feels a lot more ‘earned’.
Because it’s a fun challenge.
Having to make your own armor or target quest rewards requires game knowledge that’s fun to execute.
Plus you get a neat badge if you get to cap.
Not for everyone though – I prefer regular Blizzard HC rules
No one needs to sell you on self found. If you don’t see a reason to try it, don’t try it. Ffs, it’s a checkbox and a one toon roll to see if you like the mode. It’s not like you’re trying to decide which Russian bride to pay for.
Because being self reliant in game is fun. Admitted I like professions too much to ever go Solo Self Found, But Self Found, where each character earns his/her own money and gets no external help is my preferred way of playing.
This means that I play on normal HC server, I won’t ever gwt the SSF buff, exactly because of the SOLO aspect. I want to b able to buy the Profession items, I cannot craft myself, or a pair of grey shoulders at the AH at low level etc. but I earn ever Copper for those items on that character. No “starting money” from a rich main, no free items from my other characters. Pay or send mats to the relevant alt.
I do not give two hoot about Gold buyers / sellers or people boosting or running Dungeons for G. I do not do this.
if you’re buying stuff, it’s not self found by definition
Well my definition precedes the HC mods by several years, so I go on calling oit what I always did
Blizzard site says: Self found would mean NOT using the mail system to send items back and forth to any of your characters or to other players. NOT using the AH (I would hope the AH is actually closed or locked doors/ Plus this could mean the end of bots because without an AH bots are useless. Also, if one is using a bot, they can’t mail items back and forth to themselves.) You Find it you keep it and use it as long as you can use it. IE: if you’re a warrior and you find a staff with some high damage, then run back to the trainer and train for the staff. This would ultimately mean as a warrior you may have to train all your skills just because you may find a weapon you haven’t trained for. Plus, Once trained, I would tackle low areas to work your specs back up to your current level
So I’m under the impression that the AH doors would be closed/locked or removed and the mail boxes removed.
Self-found is going to exist on hardcore servers, so I would guess the AH and mailboxes will still be present, but your self-found tagged toons just won’t be able to use them. I would think things like mailboxes and AH npc’s just won’t be interactive for SF toons.
it would be too much of a temptation for someone to mail or use the AH. I would remove them completely.
Okay, do you read?
Self-found will be an option at character creation on existing hardcore servers. You can’t remove the AH or mailboxes because not everyone on hardcore will be playing self-found. That’s why it makes sense to disable mailboxes, the AH, and any other action that is not permitted within the self-found ruleset.
So, you could see the AH and even go inside, but the NPC’s would not be interactive for you as well as mailboxes, seen but no option to interact. It’s pretty simple and you can’t circumvent it.
If one wants to level rhat way it most certainly is possible. I currently do not use mail or the auction house in HC. I do still trade but no money - just goods. It works for me and I enjoy it. It doesn’t bother me that others play their way and use tools that I do not. Variety is cool and leaving the AH and post boxes where they are and functioning is fine.
unfortunately self found isn’t getting its own server it should, but we’ll have to settle for getting a special title on regular HC servers.
yeah well thought I’d be helpful. But, doesn’t make me feel like returning to HC.
Eyr, you’re playing both HC and SoD?
How charming!
Only for you, because it’ll be some kind of buff on the normal HC realms.
all I’m doing is slowly leveling a HC warrior. she’s 55
At this point in WoW’s lifecycle some people want to play WoW purely solo. You CAN do that on HC official, but it’s very common for people to group up, buy AH, etc and I think people just like the idea of being left completely to their own devices and never having to feel the need to interact with people beyond saving each other in an almost death kind of way.
Others do it for the added challenge and if you have a self found server where it is forced everyone is on an even playing field. I don’t think that’s a huge deal for HC because there’s not a lot of PvP to it, but maybe some people care.
You’re far too modest.
