Help Me Understand Weapons and Cat Druids

I’ve noticed that no matter which weapon I have equipped, my dps stays about the same and the only influencing factor is the amount of Agility on the weapon. I recently got an amazing staff that has a 50% DPS increse over my current staff, but my Cat and Bear Form damage didn’t increase at all. Is weapon damage completely unrelated to Cat and Bear Form damage?

Another question I have is about weapon procs. No on-hit effects seem to proc off Cat or Bear Form attacks. Is this why Cat Druids are subpar compared to Rogues?

Yep, weapon damage is irrelevant and they’re just stat sticks for us druids.

It is a big factor as to why rogues are better but the upside is it makes you very gear independant while leveling.

good explanation, that makes perfect sense.

So is this why people are saying Manual Crowd Pummeler is the BiS weapon for Cat Druids? Never really quite understood that but it’s becoming a little more clear now lol.

Yep, the 50% haste buff trumps everything else, including Atiesh.

Manual Crowd Pummeler is really only needed for burn phases on bosses(no body cares about trash). Atiesh will solve your need most, if not all other times.

A level 5 weapon with +1 Agility is infinitely better than a level 60 weapon with no stats but mad DPS and a proc. Windfury also does not benefit druids as it buffs the weapon, not the character, and behaves as an on-hit chance effect.

Weapons with on-use abilities, like Crowd Pummeler, do contribute to feral dps when used. In that case, it effectively doubles the kitty’s auto attack damage for 30 sec or doubles the amounts of mauls a bear can apply in a given time period.

No druids don’t automatically benefit from weapon DPS and they didn’t start adding real +FAP weapons until BC, and by wrath all weapons added +FAP. So yeah feral scales horribly because of that. Enjoy cat form being basically the equivalent of a rogue with a single white dagger always.

And no, no weapon procs in form either. And yes this is another big issue with feral scaling as some of the better enchants are weapon procs.

Feral gets 2 ap from strength and 1 ap + some crit from agility.

This is why a lot of leather has both. And sometimes also int or spirit.

You are going to be healing at 60 don’t worry about it!

So does that mean Strength is higher stat priority than Agility for Cat? Or at least equal?

though apparently some weapons can make the difference for feral dps. i didn’t read too much about it but apparently a mace drop in gnomeregon has an on use that increases attack speed and that is the best weapon available for end game feral. of course the down side is you only get 3 charges so you gotta refarm that mace.

Yeah that’s the Manual Crowd Pummeler I listed above. Its proc apparently works in Cat Form and since I guess weapon DPS has no impact on Cat Form, this weapon becomes BiS (I guess aside from Atiesh which I am probably never going to get lol).

But now I’m really curious about Strength giving twice as much AP as Agility and whether I should be using Strength gear as cat.

I’m not so sure that’s totally true.

Auto attack damage is certainly a factor and with something that drastic it’s likely going to outweigh +1 agility.

No I think he’s actually right. My current staff has 23.0 DPS and 9 Agility on it (Acrobatic Staff of the Monkey). I just got a Black Duskwood Staff that has 33.6 DPS on it and no Agility. My damage with the Acrobatic Staff is actually higher because of the Agility. The Black Duskwood Staff is actually a DPS loss despite it having 50% more damage than my current staff because it doesn’t have Agility on it. Just tested it out on a bunch of mobs.

It really does look like Weapon Damage has no impact at all on Cat Druid damage. So a literal level 5 weapon with 1 Agi is actually better than a level 60 staff with no Agi. So weird.

For sure there’s a break even point but a 50 DPS weapon is going to outweigh a 9 DPS weapon with 1 agility on it.

That’s the point I’m trying to make.

I don’t actually think so. I just tested it out and my DPS is exactly the same if I use the Dark Duskwood Staff vs if I have no weapon equipped at all. My dps without a weapon is the same as my dps with a weapon with no agility, meaning weapon damage has absolutely no impact at all on Cat Druid DPS. Only the amount of Str and Agi.

Do you auto attack with your weapon?

No, I tested in Cat Form. In Cat Form, my dps is the same with DDS and Unarmed.

Bruh, do you even classic feral?
