I’ve been slowly but steadily working my way up the M+ ladder on my Guardian Druid, mostly by Pugging. Right now I’m starting to try stuff in the +9 range. I have never tanked a +10 or anything higher so I’ve never yet done anything with Prideful on my tank. The tank’s ilvl is currently 204 but I’m working on that, of course.
I’ve been reading what I can find on the Prideful mechanic. I understand the basics of it but what primarily worries me are the changes to routes I hear so much about.
I feel like within the next week or two I’ll be ready to start doing Prideful runs but I’ll be honest that I feel like I need to know more about routes than what I do now. I’ve looked at the discussions on the web about it and I plan to watch Youtube videos of each dungeon given whatever affixes are in place at the time, but I know that no amount of preparation will replace actually getting in there and doing it. I’m also wondering how you can go through instances and skip mobs, given the requirements for percentage.
I feel like I’ve learned the non-prideful routes pretty well by now - if I study up a bit more, are the routes significantly different or are they relatively minor? I’m worried that I’m going to get screamed at by the first group I do at +10.
Any advice? And please don’t say get a group of friends. Thanks!
Download mdt tools and start coming up with paths. A prideful will spawn at every 20% of mobs killed. you can get a sense of how many mobs you should be killing, with the goal of trying to get a prideful to spawn right before a boss pull (especially on tyrannical week). This isn’t always possible to get absolutely perfect without some pot use, skips and backtracks, but you can get a pretty good route set up without needing any of that where you’ll get a pride before ‘most’ bosses.
After you’ve run a few, you’ll realize what a garbage affix it is, and hope it goes away entirely in 9.1 (I’m sure it will be replaced with something equally tedious)
On tyrannical weeks you want prides to hit on the pack before a boss, on fort weeks you can decide if you want/need a pride before a tough pack or for a boss.
As you’re learning, it’s good to put that in description when forming a group “learning pride routes” and then you can also specify that you’re happy for advice/input. I’m always happy to help a tank in training if they’re looking for help. But if you act like you know what you’re doing, then people will expect that you know what you’re doing (and that’s where people get moody).
Don’t stress about it too much. My guess is the first thing you’re going to notice is how much easier 10s feel compared to 9s because of the way you can just obliterate trash and fortified bosses with the prideful buff.
https://mythictrap.com/home pride will come every 20% just keep a eye on it butt pulls can make it hard so give your dps some space. You learn the most by just doing them so dont over think it hopefully you get some helpful dps/healer in the group that can help correct ya if something goes wrong. best of luck
Perhaps try healing or dpsing a prideful route first instead? That way, you will have practical experience after doing all that research. See how other tanks handle it and think how you would do the same in their shoes while following along in a non critical leadership role.
