Over in another thread someone was talking about Void Elves vs Blood Elves, and it got me to thinking about Sylvanas and her relationship with the Blood Elves.
She started off as. Blood Elf (ok they technically were not called Blood Elves yet, but you know what I mean) and Obviously became undead.
I think that’s Blizzard has not had consistent writing with her. She’s a sad Victim of a horrible act, and we should feel pitty for her. Next she’s like this “Grey Jedi” type of character; leans Morally right, but is willing to use any tactics to achieve her goal like the ends justify the means. Next she’s a scheming plotter, planning on helping to end the universe.
You get what I’m saying, right? I’m sure someone’s going to try and say that Blizzard has been anning this long, drawn out, “falling from grace” story arc, but come on! That’s "Copium"and plain just being dishonest with yourself if you really think that.
It’s like, they just can’t decide on who or what Sylvanas is! And let me be the first to say I know that they’re going to bench her for a while, and I’m not asking for another Sylvanas expansion.
I just think that Blizzard missed many opportunities to show her changing relationship from her former people. I mean you walk around Silver moon and there is no change referencing Sylvanas actions pretty much since they were added as a Race in BC. I’ve been “Remembering the SunWell” and hearing that phrase they say in Thalassian for almost 20 years. Don’t you think that SOMEONE would have an opinion on what she was doing. I doubt the residents have forgotten her history of being a Blood Elf before her death.
Finally, it would be cool to have a closure of that story also. Do the Blood Elves condem her as a traitor to their people? Are they ever able to instead forgive her madness, and invite her to come home? Again I know this is all speculation; I think I just wanted to see that relationship play out or have some kind of ending.
You know?
Lor’themar has quotes about her. I think he feels sad that she has become what she has. She was once a hero of Silvermoon that got twisted into some thing dark.
Me I felt sympathy for her until she wanted to kill and raise Belves in Siege of Org. Then I was done with her. She went too far too long ago.
I don’t really consider her a Blood Elf either. Since she died before that change. And she doesn’t even consider herself a High Elf anymore but Forsaken. If she’s on some road to redemption that’s her business, but I’m never gonna trust her. No matter what the story does.

She got the blood elves into the horde. She is our high elf forsaken warchief. And she made a ton of mistakes after she died in her undeath. She is the reason why we got the allied races in a way, stuff like nightborne. Zandalari, etc.
The forsaken joined the horde out of convenience but they grew into the horde I think, the ones that stayed in the horde formed an new identity to what we have now.
You’re discussing the Forsaken as opposed to Sylvanas herself.
I get it, you’re a fan. That’s cool! I’m just thinking that there has been a severe lack of in game discussion about the Blood Elves and their relationship with Sylvanas.
Again, I don’t blame the character Sylvanas. I’m pointing at how badly she has been written and that whole massive part of both of their lives is not really addressed at the Beginning, Middle, or End.
I am saying the forsaken are the reason the blood elves are in the horde. She spoke good of the blood elves. As her former kin. Though in undeath she uses her people more. That is the relationship they have of her. She is a hero in there history. Her undeath is what people didn’t like, but they still regard her a hero in life.

I can get that. You’re 100% accurate. It just is bothering me I think that Blizzard hasn’t shown that relationship in game beyond a few crumbs, but nothing like a coherent story.
That’s their fault for the uneven writing, and not showing any of that in game. I still want to see some form of closure between them.
Wasnt her model originally a night elf?
Yes, but she never really was. It was just because they hadn’t given her a proper model yet.

Only because of technical limitations I believe. She’s always been an undead High Elf as far as lore goes.

She’s tried to be too many things to too many people for a purpose even she doesn’t understand, but somewhere somehow has reconciled all of it after the Jailer soul shard.
I knew things were going squirrelly with the lore the moment Voljin croaks his dying breath to pass the Horde to her. Then of course we go on 17 wild goose chases around Zandalar and Shadowlands.
All I hear in my head is Adria’s voice:
“I sense a soul in search of answers”

The novel just hits different. She went too deep down the path of madness because of certain reasons but I’m certain she can be trusted once again. (until she proves me wrong)

Honestly, I’m not sure that ordering the creation a new plague that will bring “death to the living” is “Morally right”, nor is whining about how cursed you are in undeath, yet repeatedly inflicting that curse intentionally on many others.
She’s always been a rather evil schemer. The problem is that Blizzard made it overt instead of covert. That kinda ruined her character, though her actions themselves weren’t even that out of character.
