Help me understand Arms vs. Fury

Sup guys.

So I have been playing a warrior since the good old days. Rank 13 in vanilla, tons of pvp, raided with the top horde guild NA during TBC. I generally know what the hell I’m doing with this class.

I historically have mostly been fury. I fired my warrior back up a few weeks ago and have been gearing up and I have noticed significantly better results as arms. My confusion comes in where my character is simming about 20k higher for fury than arms. There are probably a multitude of reasons for this, but was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.

I can imagine that it’s partially that since deep wounds is a large portion of my damage and doesnt require 100% activity uptime, it’s more forgiving when I’m doing mechanics in dungeons. While I’m sure that I can improve my rotations with both, I know that I’m savvy enough with the class that neither one is particularly difficult for me in the sense that I’m just doing it wrong.

I wish I had sims, but being that this guy is pretty fresh to BfA I don’t have anything specific to show you guys. I have a decent offering of rank 3 essences but no MoLD for arms to make it vastly outperform, and I have two test of might and two cold steel hot blood traits on each so that shouldn’t be a critical difference maker either.

Anyways I’m great at rambling, but my understanding is that arms SHOULD need a godly amount of haste (which I don’t have) to be outperforming fury so I’m wondering what may be going on here. If it’s a PEBCAK error that’s okay too, I have no problem hitting the test dummies a bit more–my suspicion is that that’s only a small part of it though.

Any thoughts would be appreciated, friends.

With no sims and no logs it’s hard to say. There’s a lot of things that can influence either result. Maybe it’s a sim error where you’re simming Arms with Fury Azerite traits. Maybe it’s a performance error where you’re not weaving WW properly for your Fury cleave rotation. Or maybe Arms just fits more comfortably with your personal playstyle habits, because that’s totally a thing too.

If you’re doing better as Arms and enjoying playing it, then don’t stress too much about theoretical Fury performance. If you like how Fury plays and want help getting it up to snuff, then give us anything solid to work with and we’ll see what we can do.

Fair, and I’ll grab some logs if I head back to the fury side of the fence for sure–just didn’t know if anyone else may have had a similar situation.

To your point, the only gap I can see is that my brain still has the old meat cleaver “one ww, one ability” burned into it so I definitely have times where I’m wasting an extra cleave… But even on single target I’m wildly outperforming as arms so I don’t think that’s it.

At any rate, appreciate the response and understand it’s hard to troubleshoot without the logs.

What’s your crit at as fury. You’re gonna wanna crit stack with cshb

It was 33ish static, not counting procs etc. Nothing amazing but not completely terrible–either way, fury was simming way way higher so not really a huge concern.

I have to use a custom interface to keep up with my fury rotation or else I’d just be mashing my buttons. WeakAuras can do great things.

Yeah, I hear you there, I write my own tellmewhen setups for all my characters.
