When you name your dwarves, do you use more first-name-y stuff like I don’t know, Bofur Or Galinor. Or something tolkein-y. Or do you use something more in line with maybe more Traditional DND style er, Contrations? Like Ironkeg or Lightstein. Not sure what that type of word is called.
Been trying to think of a name for my paladin. He’ll be a Dwarf, and I like it when my characters have names that fit the game. Anyway. I’m getting off track.
Any ideas for a Dwarf Paladin? Preferably Lore Friendly.
Something Norse. Tolkien sourced many of his famous names from Old Norse poetry and mythology. Including most of the dwarves in The Hobbit, as well as known non-dwarf, Gandalf.
This way you’ll get something properly “Tolkieny” without actually stealing from the professor.
I look to other fictional works as well as named npcs in this setting to decern a name for my dwarves (taking into account Bronzebeards, Wildhammers, and Dark Irons)
Sometimes I come up with more original names like Thuradin
other times I turn to more Norse sounding names like Thorhilde
and sometimes . . . SOMETIMES I swipe a name from another setting partially because I’m stumped and partially because I wanna see if anyone gets the reference . . . so far no ones been able to pinpoint Skorgrym
but yea thats what I do, honestly Norse, Gaelic, and LOTR based names can help you craft something.
