Hey Everyone! Just hit 60 and need to start making gold. I’m on a very high-populated server with no layers, so needless to say, I underestimated how difficult black lotus are to farm.
Here’s my character’s stats. Any suggestions on how you make gold with the same specs is greatly appreciated:
My suggestion is to do detective work. Look at the days and times that guilds on your server raid. About 2-3 hours before that (when they are looking to snag world buffs and do last minute prep work) list a bunch of potions and food on the AH.
I used Elixir of the Mongoose as they are used for hunters and rogues - all raids will have a fair number of them. Also, throw up health/mana pots + buff food. However, every server is different so this is just my experience.
Level a ranged alt, pick up herb/mining, farm Dire Maul East. Drop Herbalism on your Paladin and pick up another profession like Enchanting.
I understand that’s not how a lot of people would like to play. I wish I could spend all my time on 1 character and have it do everything.
I have a friend who played Shaman with Herb/Alch, he basically did what Vladimir said. Run around picking herbs whenever you can, try and figure out what days the large guilds on your server raid and start selling high demand potions 1-2 days beforehand as well as in the hours leading up to them. Some people put off raid preparation until the last minute.
Edit: I think you should also be able to farm Maraudon as a Holy Paladin. Maybe not even kill a couple bosses but you can run through picking Ghost Mushroom. They’re worth ~1.3g per on my server last I checked.
Solid advice, but I personally wouldn’t do this because leveling is a hassle to me. I enjoy it, but I like to take my time leveling and gold is something I need now/soon/always. I would be in a hurry to level the character and it would burn me out.
Drop herbalism and pick up Engineering. You’ll thank me for this later.
Finish fishing. I regret not leveling that as this Paladin is leveling up.
Go respec. You only neeeeeeed 20 in Holy to do all right healing. Plus, Holy Shock really isn’t all that great. 20/?/? spec. My favorite is 20/31/0, and this spec takes garbage gear into account, but your mileage will vary.
If your realm has high enough population you can fish for Jed spawns with your daily 30 cap and then sell it when you get an instance ID with him in it for a few hundred gold.
This is very reliant on server size for how much this will sell for.
Quick point: don’t change your profs just yet. Yours are the two most profitable in the game if that’s your only character at 60. If it isn’t, then yes, engineering is the best prof for a raiding or pvping main. It’s just too useful, but it doesn’t make much gold.
So many great comments, thank you all for taking the time to participate.
Also have 300 herb/alch.

This is along what I was looking for the most – what pots sell best, and if there’s anything I can do with cooking/fishing to make end-game materials that people buy. I’ve been pursuing around trying to keep an eye open for it, but I feel like I’m missing something big (i.e. making nightfin food or something like that).
I just don’t know enough about the classes and what they need to optimize gameplay to really investigate well.
Take a quick look at Classic wowhead - I would link it if I knew how on these forums. At the top, you’ll see raids. Mouse over it and click consumables. Look at that list and then make your own “shopping list” ie what herbs to farm, fish to catch, etc.
