HELP me decide between Warrior or Warlock for first toon! (detailed long post, with history)

First off, Thank you so much classic wow team for bringing us this beloved opportunity and chance to enjoy the class experience in the coming months!!!
Also, thank you classic wow community for pushing for this initiative, and being so passionate about bringing the greatest MMORPG of all time back online!

I’m ecstatic for classic release, like most of you seem to be. I’m 27 now, and back when I played vanilla as a young teen/kid, I literally played on a toaster and was restricted by Mom aggro and school. Now, I am an adult, matured, have a great PC, and infinite time. No wife, no kids, but I do have a girlfriend (trying to convince her to play, might build her a gaming pc, fingers crossed for this lmao).

@@ Now to the topic discussion and difficult decisions @@

I’m sure many of you people are stuck in the same boat as me between choosing a warrior or a caster for your first main when classic launches.
Fortunately, I know I want to play for the Horde, and I definitely know I want to either roll an Orc Warrior or an UD male warlock. I did the mage thing in the past and rogue is tempting, but rogues are not the best for getting groups or utility.

Mage is a fine class but I played it for to many expansions, and I like the fact warlocks have the free mounts, and they can lifetap/self heal/sustain well.

I Feel like the obvious choice is to roll a warlock first, simply due to the fact you get the free mounts, and they should be fairly scarce compared to the big three (warrior, mage, rogue). I also love torturing people in pvp, and I know how to micro a pet well. A well played warlock is almost impossible to beat with the right pet, and strategy. They can even beat rogues if you death coil and fear chain etc…Especially since I’ll be horde and won’t worry about Will of the forsaken (Sorry alliance warlocks, i feel for you vs the UD xD )

With all this said about warlocks being a great overall choice, warriors are exceptionally rewarding and scale phenomenally well. They also get first dibs on thunderfury if you tank, and you have good “street or guild cred.” I was extremely envious and jealous of those TF warriors back in vanilla. I would plan to tank in the early raids and dungeons, but eventually gear up fury and arms pvp spec for fun/late game dps.

I have practically infinite time to play wow when classic launches because I own my own business and It practically runs itself now. Plus I can play in my office if I want too.

How many of you guys are stuck in my situation between choosing a caster or a warrior first?

What is going to be the factor that leads you to making your major final decision? I know that I’ll have the time to eventually have BOTH a lock and warrior, but I’m talking about the first toon I play.

I plan on playing 10-16 hours a day when classic launches, and literally going insanely hardcore. I hope to find a guild that accepts me early on, and acquire or have a leadership position. I feel I would be a great fit for that since I will have all the time needed, have over a decade of experience on WoW, and I am a solid leader overall. I’m also a generous person and like to help others succeed, even noobs.

If any of you guys are going to roll Horde on a pvp server, and you have a similar attitude/plan to play the crap out of the game and eventually conquer end game content let me know! Maybe we should form a guild or work something out?

I want to be one of the server firsts for raid boss kills! I’m extremely reliable, and I don’t ever flake or miss a meeting.

TLDR: (sorry for long post, but I just wanted to explain the whole situation and my thought process so you guys can go from there)

  1. Orc warrior vs UD male warlock Horde server PVP (which to level/main first)
  2. I plan on playing 10-15 hours a day, have no time restraints and I own my own business/can play at work if I wanted too.
  3. I want to do all of the content in the game as serious and dedicated as possible, and will be flask/raid ready every single time.
  4. Have leadership capability and knowledge
  5. What is a good pros/cons list between war/warlock to play first, and I MEAN DETAILED and well thought out?
  6. if you are stuck in my shoes about warrior vs caster first, which are you gonna choose most likely or leaning too?

Lastly, I can barely stand the wait for classic. I literally feel like a kid in late fall/early December waiting for XMAS to get some new toys and stuff I asked my mom lol!

It’s gonna be pure euphoria and blissful, endless entertainment for me. I never got to experience most of classic raiding and guild involvement because I hit 60 about 1 month before TBC came out! So in essence, it is a “new game” for me, and I can’t wait to make a ton of friends and share so many memories, laughs, and slaughtering the Alliance in world pvp/bgs <3

Nothing else in the post matters at that point. You play to the point where whatever class you pick you will excel due to just sheer time played.

Playing at that level will allow you to compete for the rank 14 weapons which are going to be on par with Naxx weapons. If/when you get them in Phase 2/3 you will not need to worry about replacing them until phase 6. You will have perhaps a year or more usage out of them. You will get the rank 13 gear as well which is going to be on par with T2.5, which won’t be until phase 5? So if you get that gear, guilds will love you because you won’t need any gear besides trinkets.

Many players will play warriors. Not many will get the rank 14 weapons. Because you’re able to put in the time, I’d opt for a warrior as they are a class that requires the most time commitment.

My recommendation is two fold, I hope you find it helpful. 1. Go to classic[dot]wowhead[dot]com (I dont know how to post urls, whatever) and read all about the entire game ( it will be fun!). 2. Have a long conversation with yourself about which sounds more fun. I know that may sound frustrating, but its the only way I can settle thus debate with myself. The best advice I’ve been given in these discussions is to do what I want to do because that is what will make the game the most fun. I hope that helps.

If you get a dedicated group, with a healer, you can do very well with a warrior at any level. If you want to ‘rush ahead’ then the Warlock will level faster, and you can lone wolf it easier with the Warlock.

Never play vanilla, here my 2 cents and i hope its useful:
If it up to me, i would pick level warlock 1st, cause i heard repair bill for mail/plate is expensive, so level warlock 1st you can earn some coin and share it with your warrior.

The downside is DM haven’t release in phase 1, you get the feeling you can’t “complete” your warlock Dreadsteed quest while working on you warrior.

Yeah I feel like it’s all dependent on getting a solid group, guild, and whatnot. I have no real life friends that I will be playing with most likely. Unless it is my girlfriend or one of my old wow friends. However, they won’t be able to play as much as me since I have flexibility in my work situation.

Hopefully I can make friends/join a legit guild early on. However, I feel like It won’t be easy to find as hardcore of a guild that my plans mandate.

How hard will it be for someone like me with nearly infinite time to play the game, knowledge, and skill with mechanics/class abilities/whatnot to find a guild like that?

If you have the time, you might consider forming a guild. Then recruit people that fit into your plans.

I would operate better as a class officer/management like position.

Micro and macro managing all the finite details of getting 40 people in voice coms, equipped, tuned, and organized perfectly and seamlessly is way to much organization and attention to detail skill that I lack or I’m not willing to do it in a tryhard hardcore guild.

It would be similar to running a damn business (which I do already), and not enough reward.

I can’t imagine how hard it is to run a well-oiled, high performing, raiding guild. sounds horribly stressful and consuming, unless you don’t care, which you can’t get away with if it’s “hardcore” or you recruit other tryhard “hardcore” minded players. They will make you look like an idiot.

Haha yeah, leadership position but not the guild master/CEO

TL;DR

But go with warlock.

it’s definitely what I’m leaning towards. However, on the day of classic launch, I may just leeory jenkins it and go warrior. Or I will just play a ton and level both?

With the time you are looking to sink, a guild leader position should not be off the table. First character I always advise solo-ability and economy as well as something you enjoy to play.

Your first char will get the most mileage starting out so long as you stick with it, farming for your alts/crafts whatnot and will be your strongest and most reliable grinder. Enjoying how you will be playing should takes the top slot in decision making especially since you are dumping in all that time.

All your other points are really moot, if you aren’t enjoying those 10-15 hour play sessions and more concerned over other aspects like grinding through content, you already turned the game into a job.

A guild leader position is far to many variables, responsibilities, stresses, and complications. I would like a class leader spot, or something but not GM. That’s to much work, and i’m not interested in that sort of leadership.

I am gonna be playing those super long sessions in the beginning to hit 60 and get raid ready. I’ll make sure i’m having fun, or i’ll quit?

You should have time to. Classic isn’t going anywhere.

Be my friend. I’m just like you. Srs. Whats your discord?
