Help Me Choose

When I was asked to choose a covenant, Night fae was an easy choice. The zone is beautiful, the powers are super fun and cool.

But Man… Venthyr. I had so much fun playing around with Condemn. The execute “build” and style of play was a lot of fun. Im considering changing, but help me. How is Condemn in pvp? Arms and Fury. does it have a place if I were to tank? or is it a dead skill.

Night fae has an advantage in that its generally useful. Id like to know if Venthyr is similarly adaptable for different forms of content.

I have no experience with it as Fury yet, but as Arms, Condemn feels very good. Enables you to withstand a little extra damage from the get go, synergizes ok with using Ignore Pain. Condemn with a rallying cry + ignore pain up is strong against certain specs, I’ve noticed feral druids have trouble doing anything to me, even if I have no heals.

It being shadow damage is pretty useful for avoiding armor, and slipping through some classes defensives. It can also be a downside.

Bad choice for prot, the conduits are really bad for trying to make it useful for PvE tanking. Harrowing punishment is the only relevant conduit I can think of, and it’s undertuned. In general, conduits effecting Condemn are rather bad.

Door of Shadows can be very useful in PvP, giving you another way to catch up on a flag runner, or run flags even easier. I don’t feel bad for not going the ‘meta’ Kyrian at all, in PvP or PvE content.

Dude. Not cool.

Ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to file a motion to send Tinderbeef to the DKs. Do I have a second?

I concur, no warrior would suggest such a thing.

You have a 3rd as well.

Not gonna lie though, you made me spit my drink out laughing.

The motion carries. Objections may be filed with the clerk. Death Knight Tinderbeef, please make your way to your appropriate forums and class hall. Please do not forget to turn in one of your two-handers on your way out.

Hehe, Condemn go brrrt. That’s about all I can contribute. God it’s so fun to use.

I should probably do some pvp with it so I can give better advice on choosing it but…meh.

Ive just been hearing reports that Arms gets rage starved from Condemn in pvp. thats whats got me hesitating some

The best thing we can say, is that any of the three solid covenants will work out. Personally, I went Night Fae. The zone is beautiful, the lore is inspiring, the abilities have a multitude of uses.
Still, Condemn do go BrRrrrT, and in a single target fight, it works extremely well. Fury can make it cleave nice, but meh. I think this really is gonna be a choice for you to just trust your gut on.

That’s probably the only downside, but being out of rage is different when you’re out of rage because you just dumped thousands of damage on someone, as opposed to having not hit any procs and having to wait for auto attacks or Overpower to come back up.

You’ll run out of rage regardless!

Feels very good with sweeping strikes up too, hitting two enemies with a debuff and for 10-30% of their hitpoints at a time gets their attention. I haven’t played around with Death Sentence, but it should be good as a mobility option.

My experience with condemn and door of shadows in PVP both from an Arms and Fury perspective:

150 ilvl-

Arms:

Condem:

  • Damage:
-It does pretty good damage, nothing too extreme. but definitely can be nice if aligned with Colossus smash and trinkets.
-Damage is negated sometimes a lot with classes that have resistance. Which is a little frustrating at times.
  • Rage:
-Definitely feel the rage starved at times.
-I try to combat this using Deadly Calm so that I can start my encounters with no concern about rage, and can usually pump 2-3 Condemns and a Ignore pain before things go to low rage. Definitely need more haste, having only 12% currently as I work on my gear is very noticeable
-Currently using Fresh Meat, but at times I feel like I watch to switch it up to Skullsplitter -> Condemn for that guarantee rage and damage combo. But then again Skullsplitter has a 20s cooldown which is a really high for the low damage it deals but I guess the tradeoff is it gives rage?
  • Utility/etc:
-Attempted to use Sudden Death, but it is bugged because it does not proc with Arms very often at all. I tested and tested and didn’t see a proc that I reached out here on the forums and asked. I submitted a bug feedback on it.
-Death Sentence is really fun to use with Condemn

Fury:

  • Damage:
-For some reason it hits very weak with Fury, which is weird.
-Same thing as arms, some classes can negate the damage.
  • Rage:
-Always have rage for the most part, but you gotta use most of it on Rampage and then you can happily use condemn, but there are SO many buttons you need to press first before you can hit condemn, that by that tiem you are either dead, or they are no longer in the 80% mark or 35% mark
  • Utility:
-Same as Arms. But for some reason Sudden Death actually works a bit better than it does with Arms. Still a bit wonky though, super low proc rate, I wonder if its on purpose. I remember getting far more procs with just Execute before I chose the Condemn talent. Both with Fury and Arms. Suddenly Condemn made Sudden Death procs go from 1 to nil. No idea what the deal is.

Both for Arms and Fury
Door of Shadows:

  • This ability seems cool, but in PVP, if you are being focused, forget about it, you aren’t going to make it out. You can get interrupted, and it stops you from also using shadow abilities, aka, condemn. If you are trying to escape or reach something else without being targeted, by all means its great in that sense

Overall.
I like condemn, it is fun to use in PVE, but in PVP its hit or miss. Sometimes it feels good. but at times I am like, ahh no rage… or it just “immune” etc…

Door of Shadows. Man I was let down in PVP on that one. Im sure as time goes on I will find more utility. . I’ve Heroic leaped away, then Door of shadows to escape, that was the only time it was definitely a great tool

I would say stick with Night Fae, they have that super fast good mobility escape option. Ancient Aftershock is also good for them as well. Each warrior I saw in BGs all had Night Fae. They were bouncing all over the place in their little forms.

I picked Necrolord just to be the only warrior pushing high keys and rating to be one. I want to stand out like a butterfly!

But I switched to Night Fae cause the banner is actually terribly designed.

I really appreciate your well thought out and articulate response. I ended up going venthyr. It’s a play style I really like, the brutal “bash them till they stop moving” thing.

Night Fae is a great faction, and maybe I’ll return to them sometime. But for now I’m going to enjoy being a big beefy chunkamuffin
