I've made my return to WoW classic and I'm loving every minute of it. Way back in the day, I played it a small amount but never did anything amazing. This time around, I'm looking to go balls to walls. I'm focused on leveling and progressing myself more than delusions of endgame material. I'll worry about all of that wheneve I am of the level to get it done. That being said, lets get into it…
Through my history in WoW I've maintained the warlock class and seldom played others. Dark magic is a thing of beauty, to me. I love it and that's why I play it (also really enjoyed shadow priest). Before coming back to classic, my last time playing was in MoP, a very fun expansion for warlocks. I'd accomplished many troublesome feats and enjoyed every minute of it, in MoP. I remember 3-manning Nalak with 2 friends for about 45 minutes (huge thanks to them, Tauren pally and Tauren DK) and even being the only DPS standing in a near wipe against the 40-man Sha raid (major shout out to the last standing DK tank that somehow survived without heals to allow me to put out the final 13m damage needed to kill it). Man, some of the things you do in this game feel insane. Including spending upwards of 160k on just transmogs.
Now that I'm in classic again and I understand things better than I did back whenever I was 13 years old, I'm looking to expand myself further. Once again, I've rolled a warlock and I've wondered:
What is the best spec to level up with? I can always respec later, but I want to be efficient in dungeons and not just be a HS and summon bot.
What are goals I should be looking to achieve?
Right now, my professions are enchanting and skinning (I usually grab a gathering profession so as to have some way to make a little gold while out and about). Should I make any changes?
Macros. I've only ever lightly touched on them as I'm not super tech literate whenever it comes to such things. Recommendations?
Addons. Are there any that you guys could link that may help my case? I have questie, atlas loot and recount but that's about it. I'd like to find one that deals with threat meters and such?
Action bars. I've only used the standard WoW bars, so that's a whole new world to me. I know I need to get into it if I'm going to be doing endgame things.
If there are any veteran players that would like to give me some vanilla warlock tips, I'd love that. Note: I'm privy to threat generation factor and the fact that my class has no real reduction for it, so I don't face bash my keyboard in hopes of top damage because I want my tank to keep aggro.
Affliction is basically the best leveling spec, and then dipping into Demo until 60 - or you can respec in the 50’s to SM/Ruin which is Aff/Destro.
Absolutely whatever you like.
It’s completely up to you. Skinning is the most lucrative while leveling, while Enchanting is in demand if you advertise yourself and have the raid drop enchants. Otherwise, Tailoring has some BiS pieces for you if you care about raiding. Engineering is the absolute best profession in vanilla, as it’s very useful in PvE and extremely useful in PvP.
Again - whatever you like. Take a look at the Classic Warlock Discord for ideas. What part of your class is clunky and you feel can be better done with a macro? Only you can answer that. One in particular that is quite popular is a Soul Drain + destroy last Soul Shard macro, as it prevents your bags from overflowing. However I’m not sure if it works in Classic.
I personally like Auctionator, BagFreeSpaceCounter, BetterVendorPrice, ClassicAuraDurations, ClassicCastbars, OmniCC, SimpleMap, and a Weapon Swing Timer.
Again - up to you. Keep an eye out on websites and pick what you like.
You can do 100% of content with vanilla UI, for the most part. But Bartender is a nice addon that can free up screen space.
I must say that is a bit disheartening. While I dont have anything against affliction, i dont feel like i do enough with it. Im consistently lowest damage and maybe 3rd or 4th DPS in every dungeon. I was thinking of switching to the old SM/DM route for a bit more burst, for my own sake of not feeling like I’m being carried through everything.
Its not really a hard game. You just need to care a little and pay attention and you can do well. Play the spec you want to, use the professions that sound fun.
Playing how someone else says is a good way to do things, IMO, is a good way to get bored really quick.
Depends what you want to max out. Sustain, damage, CC/tools?
For both, gear and talents you need to decide what you want to go for.
If damage is your thing, as a tailor, especially later on, there is lot of eq to make that increases you damage but usually with lower sustain as trade off.
I personally will go for sustain on my WL, reason being the large tool set of the WL and the diversity it provides if given enough time to execute.
CTM (Classic Threat Meter) seems to be the one people are using. Also, I recommend bartender4 for your action bars. It allows you to customize your actionbars and quickly set keybindings.
