Hey everyone!!
So, I accidentally re-uped my sub via gold and have no money in-game now - YAYYYYYY! (lololol)
But negatives aside, I decided to not bother with end-game after being denied a refund.
I wanna try to RP again!
But this time I wanna try it on my priest…but I’m at a lost of what to do and wondering if people could help me with a few things:
1). Can you RP a priest as a drifter/loner? Like do I HAVE to be part of the church or clerics to be a priest RPer who’s in line with the lore? Or can I be drifting taking odd-jobs trying to rediscover themselves after a tragedy?
2). Are Shadow Priest now like Warlocks? Like could I not walk around Stormwind openly as a Shadow Priest? And would I get killed or shunned? Or could I RP as a priest who balances both the light and void openly? Or are SP like Locks now where they have to hide who they are at all times or risk being killed/locked-up??
Like if I were to join a rag-tag group of drifters/mercenaries and we went on a mission and I used obvious Shadow Priest abilities, would they all run/try to kill me/lock me up, or would they just be a little off-put and possibly worried but nothing extreme??
Thanks for the info/help!! I really wanna RP as a Shadow and Disc, or Shadow and Holy priest…not just Holy and Disc! D:
P.S.:: Ignore my name!!
I created this toon yearsssss ago when I was new to WoW and wanted to get into RPing(I didn’t) and thought RPing as a Dragon would be fun! I’ve learned recently that RPing as a Dragon is a big fat unrealistic no-no…so no worries…but name changes are too expensive D:
I imagine being an independent priest is technically viable; like someone who might’ve been previously associated with a church, temple, monastery etc. who later left/dissociated with that group for whatever reason, to give an example. I imagine there are plenty who aren’t technically tied to any larger organization and simply represent their chosen religion.
In regards to Shadow Priests in particular. Overall this may rely more or nuanced details. While the default characterization of the in-game spec portrays them as a kind of dark cultist there are still examples of other kinds of Shadow Priest in the setting, such the Auchenai. Overall I’d say it mostly depends on presentation. In most cases one probably wouldn’t be pegged as an Old God/Void minion unless they’re acting like one.

Thank so much for the response!
Like I know if a Warlock were to be openly walking through cathedral square with their demon out they’d get stoned/arrested/killed.
Could I openly walk around in cathedral square or stormwind with my staff that has void energies radiating from it?
Like, I could spin it as Light AND Void energies…but either way, would it be a big no-no, or tolerable enough to at least not get me arrested/killed??/
I’m just trying to gauge how the average person would view a open SP and if it’s anything as bad as a Warlock to the average RPer?
Imo it shouldn’t be, at all, but idk how others feel.
From a decidedly meta perspective I doubt very many would exhibit much of a notable reaction. I imagine overall it would depend on the individual either way.

It’s an interesting question. One of the most notable Spriests in Legion is a human (Natalie Seline) with some followers and you bring her back from being stuck in the void. With the inclusion of shadow priests in the priest campaign inLegion it does seem like there is more openness. This happens in Duskwood though kind of far from the prying eyes of Stormwind.
However, even with the inclusion or the Void Elves there is a sort of double edged welcome. On the one hand a VE is straight up told (when you first make a character) they’re arent super welcome in SW but people are overall polite. BUT, this changes when you go into the Cathedral of Light. You’re welcomed with a polite reminder you aren’t really welcome, and further NPC interactions have priests and priestesses of the Light straight up telling you to gtfo. Especially after the most recent storyline where you see Nzoth coming back, I’d say there would also be some renewed dubiousness about a shadow priest. The framing would be up to you to choose. Are you a student of the void working with the VE and lady Alleria? Are you a student of Natalie Seline? Are you a student of Nzoth and ultimately loyal to the Void Lords? At this point the lore has expanded so you could totally be a proud alliance member studying the Void. You just wouldn’t have much acceptance outside of few circles.

I responded to the other thread in more detail, so I’ll keep this short:
- You’re good.
- People aren’t going to gather pitchforks and torches, in part because there are elves with demon horns and wings walking around, as well as elves infused with the void.
- Stormwind people are more accustomed to odd stuff than we give them credit for, really.
Have fun!

I just read it, thank you again!!!
And thanks to the other responses here, I read them all and you guys have made me feel a lot more comfortable with RPing as a S. Priest!! =)
Zaretul is the best shadow priest.
“My life for Aiur.”- My Boy.
But yeah thanks to Disc. Priests I think it would be pretty safe to say no one is going to bat an eye at whatever iteration of spriest you go with in town although its more fun to be secretive (double points for a dark templar knock off or a cult of the forgotten shadow adherent, tentacles are overdone.)
The discovered writings of Natalie Seline were the teachings the Undead used to form “The Cult of Forgotten Shadow”. She was a human Bishop from Stormwind who started to research the shadow after the first war. That drew the attention of the Kirin Tor who didnt think that was a good idea.
Thats way more interesting than “sall good” and thats how Id play. Id transmog like Im a holy priest, and talk about how great the Holy Light is, while secretly researching and fighting the maddening whispers of the void. (Only the undead have an innate resistance to the whispers)
If I were rp’ing a priest, I’d probably play it as someone who sprang out of nowhere in a family who were anything but priests. Maybe they were all physically powerful like Orc warriors or a similar thing. The character found her or himself somehow called to by the Light, or had something happen to them that established a link with the Void and shadow power.
I could imagine the character exploring, being an adventurous type but terribly bad at anything physical, and getting chased into a deep cave where they fell and lost consciousness, and during that time they were spoken do by something very old that lived deep under the cave, something that established a link to their mind and awakened their shadow power. It would work really well for a Void Elf, of course, but could work with any race.
How come you cant rp as a dragon in one of the aspects thats in human form?
