Help, druid or priest main?

Can’t decide which I want to roll for a main, druids have been one of my favorites ever since I touched them in classic. But also priests have been a secret love of mine. Priests seem like they perform better in a general sense overall and I’d like to be useful in more than FCing in pvp. If anyone has pros/cons of each I’d love to hear them :). (for a little extra info if druid main lock would be the alt and hunter if priest main.)

If you want to be a healer in both PvE and PvP: Go Priest. Druids basicly just become flag carriers in PvP.

IMO priest. My reasoning is that at 60 priest heals are vastly superior. Both are easy to level. But often 5 man groups will ignore druids unless they have someone with a res. In PVP you have the option of going shadow and absolutely melting faces. While leveling healing is super easy on a priest, but a bit of a challenge as a druid. Can still be done of course, just a bit tougher. One counter-point for druids, is gear availability. When cloth caster gear drops there will be tons of competition, but leather int gear, that’s all you.

Yea the easy to gear part is one of the reasons I’m considering leveling one for my third toon if i get that far. easier to catch up

Either way raiding wise you’ll have no problem getting a raid spot. If you go alliance and go dwarf priest raids will literally beg you to join them.

Only if you are bad at being a druid.

I was more referring to the fact that the flag is more safe in the hands of a druid because cheeta and bear form compared to the other classes so they usually leave it to the druid.

Oh no doubt about druids being the best FC, but in other BGs/open group things not just 1v1 situations are druids like an upper tier thing to play? Because I don’t see many reasons why it would be over a priest :(.

I was looking at the grand scheme of every situation. My problem with druids is that they are a hybrid class. They are a jack of trades rather than really good at something. Sure: versatility but at what cost? When you bring a priest: you KNOW what they are gonna do for you and your team. But a druid: it’s like “We will figure out what he does when the time comes”

yea exactly, which makes me sad. In the general scheme i don’t care about tanking as much so that takes out on viability of druids for me :frowning:

Personally it should come down to how much time you can invest and what activities you will be doing.

If you are heavy PvE the priest is probably the better choice. They are decent in PvP but I think a properly played Druid is the better play.

PvP a properly played Druid is 1. The hardest class to master 2. Arguably the strongest overall PvP class. The real reason Druids were scarce in Vanilla days was because they were indeed a difficult class to master.

If you have time and feel like you want a challenge Druid. If you want to log in, play and have good gear scaling, Priest.

I’m gonna have plenty of time to play :D. I agree PVE Priests seem superior, just enjoy having melee options for dungeons and such but even then the damage usually isn’t amazing. And I disagree with priests being just alright, I’d say they’re definitely upper tier, and I know druids challenging but with gear scaling coming to be a factor it does feel lacking in a general sense outside of 1v1’s. But a super fun class to play. So probably rolling a hunter as my “try hard” toon for pvp.

Priest is easier to play but offer less diversity.

one of the reason why druid’s has such bad P.R. is because they are so difficult to play well compared to other classes, especially in pvp so a lot of people believe they are a lesser class. I have raided on both and to me druids are much more engaging and you don’t get bored on one, but prepare to put in alot of effort.

On the other hand since you gotta tryhard to compete as a druid when you outplay another player it feels sooooo good to have won unlike a priest when you win a 1v1 you feel like you have cheated the game because of how stupid op they can be in 1v1.

This is for PvE and not PvP. Priests are just OK in PvP (personal opinion). I played one exclusively in Vanilla. Shadow is amazing in duels and 1v1 but group play its not as great. Priest really became a lot better in PvP once TBC came out.

Go priest if you plan to PvE and hunter is fine for PvP.

Easy choice. How appealing are shape shifting, stealth, melee dps, and HoTs? If those all sound like something you really want, then play druid. If they’re not that important to you, then play priest.

I do love the playstyle of druid, and they are a very fun class to me, but like earlier said priest is just so good with half the effort, which is nice in a lot of ways.

Take the character’s race abilities into account.

Such as Dwarf priest have Fear Ward which is much loved by all.

I love Druids that think they can run with the flag against a pally. Seal of Justice and watch them squirm in and out of travel form to try and remove it. Assuming of course no one dispells it  Usually in pugs they don’t

Yea, lol and that point also with priest being one of the few magic dispells on horde its huge. well the only outside of pots / lock pet

PvE-wise:

This may sound odd, but I think druids get a lot more benefit from organized play than priest. (I originally played druid in vanilla) Being unable to use a normal rez, but have access to a battlerez. Often weaker than other classes at every roll, but have various abilities that make them overwhelmingly good (I said battlerez right?) Innverate! Leader of the Pack! Moonkin Aura!

The sad truth is that your previous comment about priest being so good while taking half the effort is quite correct. Druid takes a lot of effort just to keep up if you are only looking at numbers. Priest can heal when needed and then wand all day.

PvP-wise:

Priest is effective once more, but often killed/focused by many classes.

Rogues will eat you alive and guess what one of the projected most played classes is!?

Druid is effective, fun and versatile. Throwing hots on players from stealth and then bailing works wonders especially if you are playing horde (No shammies purging those hots yo). Entangling roots is by memory one of the most ridiculously overpowered abilities when it comes to World PvP. Allows easy ganks and escapes. All that being said - druid can have a hard time working alone as other classes are often more powerful since they specialize in their role while druid really doesn’t.
