I am having trouble deciding what to main for DF. I have been out of the game for some time. I have not played any of SL and from every thing I have read that was smart. Seeing the DF beta come online and all they are doing to refresh the specs and gut borrowed power out of the game has me a little excited taking me back to my TBC roots. All that being said I am having a hard time trying to figure out what to main. The new Evoker looks very cool. At the same time so do most of the other classes. I have always like rogue, shammy, druid (all melee specs). That being said I think I would like to play a ranged class this expansion to try something new. What would you pick out of these and more importantly why?
Mage always has a good spec and good utility
Priest Don’t mind healing and SP was reworked before SL if I remember correctly
Evoker The newest but could be blah
Warlock Really like Affliction but don’t like demo/destruct, tons of utility that no one else can do.

Anyway, I’d personally steer clear of evoker if you are intending to dps. The evoker is clunky as heck and lacks any real crescendos in the rotation. I think that it feels so clunky due to the empower spells. They break the rhythm of combat.
I would go mage if you are wanting to do ranged dps. They have a lot of utility, survivability, and mob control. Not to mention that all three specs are appealing in their own ways. My personal favourite is frost because it is the king of mob control and though it has a low floor, it has a fairly high skill cieling because there are a ton of little tricks you can learn to increase dps by quite a bit.
The caster I’ve enjoyed the most in the past is Priest; Shadow is fun and you have two healing specs if you want to try that side of the house. Plus, Disco is pretty tanky for a caster if you need that when soloing stuff.
