Because Blizz keeps making content that is buggy/people don’t particularly care for, at least in retail, I figured my time would be best spent “trying to do their job,” for them. In addition to other topics I’ve made, such as this one: What Made WoW Good? my goal here is to try and make a list of “relatively easy” changes, which would most likely improve multiple aspects of the game, whilst simultaneously providing “evergreen” content.
More specs/build variety. (Part a) Tank Shaman/Evoker are two common community requests. It would also be nice if Shamans could use two-handed weapons, perhaps just as part of enhance, but potentially every spec, especially if weapons, and trinkets, could provide EVERY main spec stat, so that melee hybrid classes could also heal, and casters (Druid/Pally) could also tank, without having to “farm extra”/be suboptimal. (Part b) If you don’t plan on “fixing” Evokers by making them have “normal” cast range, a “beefy” tank spec, or “not have to hold abilities,” it would be nice to add a “caster” spec for Demon Hunter, or perhaps Paladin, because there’s been no REAL new caster class since the release of the game, back in 2004, whereas “melee” has gotten THREE new classes, which seems kind of “unfair.” This could be especially true, depending on the results of the poll for the next class, (which was only really necessary because of how poorly Evokers were received). (That being said, even if “Titanslayer” ends up being yet another melee class, it still sounds more fun than the other options.)
Itemization. If the above “itemization” change to “improve” hybrid classes were to be made, itemization/gearing would probably be even more “boring” than it already is, so per my previous topic, it could make sense to add back in “new” things to itemize for, such as hit/resistances, or perhaps even (titan)forging, if done properly, (with a roughly 7% higher chance), basically so that the game isn’t just “farm this specific boss/dungeon until your best in slot drops, then you’re “done with the game.””
Races. While it would obviously be nice to have more races, as well as more classes that could be played by said races, “race diversity” could also be helped by making certain racials scale, as opposed to being static. This could potentially make it so that Taurens, Dwarves, and Humans aren’t the “default” best races for most classes, at least in PvE, especially later in expansions, as evidenced by sites like bloodmallet.
Perhaps it’s just the “content creators” I watch, but Evokers seemed like they were pretty universally disliked, perhaps not just for their playstyle, but also for their “slim” (only) appearance, as opposed to the beefy (six-limbed) form that some dragon models use, which again, the creators I watch, keep saying they would have liked/preferred.
Thank you for mentioning “Death Knights.” A “Cultist/Necromancer” variation is another possibility, but as is, even though some of their abilities are “ranged spells,” Death Knights are basically melee.
As part of the next expansion, Blizzard supposedly released a poll in (European) surveys, which was “leaked,” but it looked pretty official, so again, the creators I watch take it seriously. People like Bellular have videos covering it if you are curious, but the proposed classes looked mostly meh.
I am surprised Evoker is being touted as disliked by content creators.
Weird.
That would be dracthyr.
Evoker is the class.
Dracthyr is the race.
And yes Dracthyrs are slammed (by myself included although I love mine because it can fly and do cool spell things!) for their build as well as a host of other reasons.
For a long involved discussion on the subject, see: Dracthyr hate
Thank you. I will have to change that in my file.
I think it would be odd for them to survey Europe when North American and China are their two biggest markets.
I’d imagine that this is because, even after all of the melee/tank specs that have been added, there are now 13 rdps specs, 13 melee dps specs, 7 healer specs and 6 tank specs - this should point out that the game started with a ton of rdps and very few tanks/melee.
Fair point, Hunters don’t feel like “casters” though. Even though they’re ranged, their damage is physical. If you make that distinction, starting from Vanilla, you had Warriors, Paladins, and Rogues as “melee.” As for “casters,” you had mage/warlock, (maybe shadow priest, boomkin, and ele, but if you count them, you should count feral/enhance, which basically results in a “wash,” so I think there’s probably still “validity” to my point.
Also, most casters are pretty similar. Melee classes feel more varied, using different weapons/abilities/positioning, whereas casters are basically just different colors/particles, with the “exception” of Evoker, which arguably kind of sucks BECAUSE it is different…
Anyways, yet another potential “caster” spec idea, “Jade” Monks, focused around jade lightning, dragons, breath, could even borrow a bit from Brewmasters and “cast” barrels/brews. That would probably honestly be my personal favorite, as I still miss having a “green” caster class, especially with the removal of “green wrath” from druids, and no, “green fire” for warlocks just isn’t the same.
