Started my little DK blacksmith in Wrath, when you still had to choose between armor- and weaponsmithing. She chose Armorsmith, but that has since been removed - a smith is a smith nowadays.
My problem is, she has a bunch of Classic weapon recipes that are unlearned & are listed in this manner: Source: Blacksmithing <level #> (the lowest she’s missing is 170). Her Classic BS is at 300/300 so she’s high enough level to learn them, but I can’t find a trainer! The only thing the trainers on the two continents show is “Cataclysm Blacksmith (already known)”. Can anyone point me in the direction of trainers who CAN train those recipes??? Thank you VERY much in advance!
In Vanilla in particular, not every trainer had the same recipes available. (there were a few in other expacs as well that did the same, but those were very few and far between). Unfortunately, without knowing which patterns you’re missing, it’s going to be hard for us to direct you to the right location.
If you are looking at your unlearned tab, it is possible that those are the former weaponsmithing specialization weapons, which I believe were removed from the game. However, if you already had them, you might have been allowed to keep the pattern, thus they would still be part of the in-game database even though the trainers have been removed. At least that is my best guess. You might try wowhead to see if there is an updated drop location.
After trying all of the trainers listed on WoWHead, I decided to try by recipe. It looks as if all of them are now drops & I’m trying to farm the “first” on the list (the one at the bottom) now. Apparently it’s a pretty rare drop & is listed as dropping from Bored Students in Scholo (among two other possibilities), however I’m not entirely certain that would be correct anymore due to the revamp of Scholo in MoP. I DID get a MoP mining thing though, so that was awesome!

I have learned every blacksmithing pattern available. It took me 3 expansions to do it. Checking the AH can be helpful. Some people don’t know how rare what they’re posting is. Search Recipes - Blacksmithing and make sure the Usable Items checkbox is checked (it will filter out all the patterns you already know).
