Helm's and Hair question

I already know there is a “hide helmet” feature.

What I am more curious about, is say you the night elf appearance for example with the long ponytails coming from the front, are those hidden with a helmet being worn? Or do they stick out?

most hair is completely hidden by full helms, even long hair. The exception is “crown” style helms like the one in my avatar.

Hair is hidden with helms and hats.

The exception being crowns, and the a few of the Tier raid pieces for healing classes.

I think all 3 priest tier head pieces show full hair.

It really depends on the model of helmet. There have always been some that clip strangely in different ways. I have memories of the crowns/diadems/visors hiding my male nelf’s hair in Vanilla so it looked like I had a dark blue buzzcut, but this may be apocryphal or it may have been just during some content patches.

Anyway, to answer your question specifically, I’m pleased to report that in Classic when my male nelf wears a helmet like Knight’s Headguard, the hair is still visible as it is in retail. However, if it’s anything that covers the back of the head or top of the head, the hair is typically hidden.
