Bought one back in WoD, I got a heroic plate belt as a mail wear.
Considering how expensive they usually go nowadays (+150-200k) If you don’t have the money to gamble enough on those boxes to get something good, I wouldn’t risk to buy them at all.
Since the BMAH item pool is insanely huge, I wouldn’t risk buying them unless you get them at a bargain price and I would hate myself if I get untrasmoggable T3 pieces on the boxes aswell.

I bought one once and got Invincible. The problem is, I already had Invincible. So it was a tremendous waste of money, but that’s the gamble you’re willing to make.

I bought my first one for 150k and got a pet which worth less than 5golds; I was about to un-install lol… My guild says it is a scam, but they dont force you to buy it…

and with that amount of gold you could snag a good amount of BMAH goodies posted if you are lucky also, that’s why it’s not a good shot to go for them even though it’s tempting to buy them to have a “chance” on the most expensive items like the zulian tiger.

dalaran sewers
I think there’s one in Boralus and Zuldazar somewhere, though I never bothered finding it. The one in Dalaran sewers still works, and Mechagon added a craftable toy that lets you summon it wherever you want. I just check my liason in my garrison when I remember to, and summon the little thing if I actually feel like bidding on something.
If you can grab them cheap there is absolutely no reason not to buy them, but if you’re paying more than 100k it’s a real risk of getting something worthless. You open enough of them though and you’ll get some awesome stuff. Assuming you’re not a collector and have most of the things anyway.
Got the paper airplane toy. Now when you see a paper airplane in your bag space it was me!

I put in a couple of token lowball bids years ago, but never won. These days, the price is always out of my tax bracket. I figure there’s no point getting into a bidding war with anyone with a lootbox addiction, especially given how unlikely it will be to get something useful. I’m not so low on holes in my collections that I need to start gambling for ultra-rares.
I finished my TCG tabard collection with boxes. Have also gotten the firehawk from Firelands and the 25H Deathwing mount… several times, along with random pieces of t3 that aren’t always usable by the class I’m buying the box on,
I dunno if it’d be worth it with the prices right now though. Would probably feel pretty bad to spend 200k and get a recipe from a MoP raid that still drops and sells for 3g usually.
There is one just outside the docks at the Horde capital in Zuldazar. There is a tunnel that leads there or you can just fly over the mountain. It’s to the east of the dock area. Boralus one is similar,. It’s right next to where you buy the brutosaur, out in the bigger part of the city. You can also use either the rogue class hall or the one in the dalaran sewers, though you can be flagged in the dalaran sewers if you take too long and your unflagging buff expires.
If the original purchaser comes back to claim the item after you buy it off the BMAH, what is the protocol there?

I haven’t tried to bid on anything in the black market auction house, since I got the black market auctioneer npc in the garrison back in wod. Of course I dont use the regular AH either lol.
