Hello Azeroth,
I am a returning player. I played from the release of the game in 2004 and quit when my guild fell apart in Firelands. That was such a long chunk of my life at the time! I want to give some feedback, perspective, and ultimately find people to play with. I had no interest in 2019 Classic because I thought it was really lazy. I don’t think “we only have a backup from 1.12“ was a good excuse to not give something private servers didn’t already give. I have to admit…I played a Burning Crusade private server in 2018. I really enjoy the blood elf starting area and questing in Outland. I didn’t play TBC Classic but leveled to 70 in TBC Classic Anniversary and really enjoyed it.
Now my experience with retail begins with the pre-patch TWW. I made a fresh account and made a fresh mage. I did Exile’s Reach and it was ok. The game was super broken after that. I had one quest saying talk to Sylvanus…but I knew from YouTube that she was exiled to the Maw. I had another quest saying go to Dragon Isles and that’s what I did. It was awful. It was my first time with a “campaign” and it was exhausting. So much empty talking and it only got me to level 48 ending at a raid portal.
I looked online what to do and found out about Chromie Time. I tracked her down in Org and chose Outland. It was my favorite time ever playing WoW. I had three damage buttons: Frostbolt, Flurry, and Ice Lance. It was perfect. It was tuned perfectly so that mobs felt super satisfying to kill. The modern features were amazing. I picked up mining not really thinking about it and saw ores now stack to 200. Brilliant. I wish the next TBC Classic has two features. The first being Quests marked on your map the way they are in retail. The second being getting epic flying for free at 60. I got Hellfire Peninsula and Zangarmarsh finished in a great flow.
The only thing that went wrong was I was starting at 48 so after getting a handful of quests into Terrokar Forest I was 70. The two zones I did finish were awesome. I loved Zangermarsh so much that I played TBC Classic Anniversary and leveled to 70 in Hellfire, Zanger, Terrokar, Nagarand, Blades Edge, and Netherstorm. I’ve done Shadowmoon Valley for gold in 2007 so I didn’t mind not doing it now. I might go back to raid SSC to complete out the zone but that’s weeks away and I’d need to find people for that too.
In TWW launch I got absolutely hammered in Dalaran by Nerubians. I barely got through. After making it to the expansion continent when I completed a quest I would go from 35 of a stat on an item to 350. It’s like the dev team had gotten so used to no new players that they didn’t even playtest what it would be like and no one noticed on the spreadsheet that there might be a problem. I got hammered. I hated TWW campaign gameplay. I switched to Arcane and eventually just leveled to 80 by queuing dungeons. When I tried to pick up the campaign and it said I needed to grind out renown to continue I quit and didn’t look back. My TWW experience was horrrible.
I heard about one button mode and other things online but still didn’t come back. I hated setting up addons for my rotation in TWW. Apparently people had rotation helping addons for years and had just gotten used to it. Well I saw that there was a pre-Midnight event on YouTube. I logged in and got 121 gear playing one button mage. I LOVE one button mage. To be clear to people that might play with me in the feature that I’m open to rotation helper mage but not after I get most of the world content done and want to focus on group instanced content and higher level delves.
I did not enjoy the campaign and skipped most of the cutscenes. I really have enjoyed the side quests and might of made a prejudiced mistake. I picked zones to side quest thinking I’d save best for last. I thought I’d do it Voidstorm, Harandar, Zul’Aman, Eversong. I am almost done with Voidstorm and have loved it. I really loved the quest where you make an antidote for parasites. My favorite quest in all of Midnight so far is a Warlock who likes that her Voidwalker is rebelling. That questline was so funny and felt like WoW.
That’s where I’m at. I did a bountiful delve today and got a piece of 220. Otherwise I just have the 214 gear from the pre-raid campaign quests waiting for storymode which I’ve never done. I raided the first 12 tiers of the game and that’s my entire experience. I’m at 90 mining and 61 Blacksmithing. I can make a 246 Warglaive as my only good recipe but no one wants it on crafting orders. I’m looking forward to making myself a Magister’s blade.
I really liked my guild in TBC Anniversary but quit. I’d like to find a guild for Midnight. I’ve played TBC twice and it’s not really a game anymore. If a game is a series of interesting choices…I know what’s coming. I’m really enjoying being somewhere new. I know “no one asked” but this is my perspective. If you have tips on what I should put in my looking for guild post let me know.
Thanks
