Heirlooms need to be fixed

while leveling a alt i noticed dungeon drops are nearly 10ilvl higher than every piece of heirloom gear i have on with any epic being over 30 ilvl higher. it feels like there is no point to use them let alone spend the gold to upgrade them since everything is better

lol its been that way for a looooooong time. Like, literally before Timewalking became a thing IIRC.

Heirlooms lost their purpose without the XP boost.
Just ignore them.

Yeah, what they did to heirlooms kinda sucks. At the same time, at least I don’t have to worry about actually finding gear for leveling when I have them, since leveling is so braindead easy anyway it doesn’t much matter if they’re a bit lower ilvl than dungeon blues.

Never forget the heirloom massacre

I like them still. They’re decent enough gear, I never have to worry about finding pieces for them and, most importantly, I can just mog them once and not have to worry about it the rest of the time I’m leveling.

Now, if only they’re add more for the missing slots.

I did on leather and mail unfortunately. They used to be pretty good and now they’re just “meh good enough if nothing better drops”

How long is your dungeon drop good for? 2, 3 levels? Does the dungeon drop increase in ilvl when you gain a level?

i havent really been keeping track since i just started looking at the gear the last 3 runs so lets say its good for 3 levels. im getting enough drops and end of run gear that yea it technically increases in ilvl as i level as i just swap it out for a new and even for slots that are slow at worst it would be the same ilvl as my heirlooms are now so whats the point of having them

They are great for me, I level so quickly that I outlevel any gear I find while leveling. If they stopped scaling with your level, then I’d consider them useless.

I also think that it’s nice that they don’t feel necessary though.

Can still put gems in the Garrosh weapons, though.

They will only be 10 ilvls ahead for a level or 2 then the heirloom will be better and you’ll put it back on. I can’t imagine min/maxing leveling to the point where I would even care that something dropped that is only slightly better than my leave it on and forget heirloom item for a short time frame.

its not even min maxing so much as expecting value out of gear i bought and upgraded. ide rather they scrap the whole mess heirlooms are now and go back to how it use to be. a massive upgrade over gear and a xp buff. atleast then it felt like you got something for the gold sink

Last time I extensively used heirlooms was 2017, having all possible gear slots heirloomed and 6-7 legion invasions got 16 of my alts from level 98-110 expeditiously. When scaling and heirlooms nerf later on I only used them sporadically to get allied races to level 100 prior to the level squish

last time i used mine was middle of bfa when i changed servers which is why im using them again

They used to be on par with dungeon blues up until they were nerf stat slammed in Mop, or Wod. Then they got all gimmicky with them, and removed xp, and added the stupid rested xp bs set bonus whatever. They should have just buffed the stats back up some to make up for the xp removal, but nope let’s play gimmick with them lol. Imo only the weapons, and trinks are worth upgrading now.

They are only useful to mog while leveling, at least is better than nothing.

This would have been better really.

the rested xp bonus…is not even needed, imo. its not classic where one will sit an alt in an inn for week. classic I take way more inn breaks. I know I will kill 150 animals for 10 livers. I rested xp that crap when I can.

retail once the rested burns off still chugs along nicely really. and it has LFD lol. it may take 10 extra dungeons to level cap all in all.

they aren’t hard to pick up in retail. its not exactly an hour of lfg wait games…per dungeon. if lucky (for some servers).

Heirlooms are basically useless now except for a handful of unobtainable ones like the Garrosh weps which scale similar to an epic of that level. I farmed a ridiculous amount to get most of the sets back in cataclysm, which is kind of upsetting to see them nerfed.

On the other hand, leveling is so easy now. Back in cataclysm it still followed the “old world” leveling model, and became easier in expansions going forward. Heirlooms are not really necessary anymore since you can just blast through chromie time and go 1-60 in an evening.
