Heirlooms need to a new Revamp

Heirlooms I feel have become a huge joke ever since they added Set bonuses to them. IN the Hierlooms early days we had PVE/PVP Currency to buy the bulk of the heirlooms with the few Heirlooms from the guild vendor that needed gold to buy those ones. The upgrades required a PVE currency.

WHen the Current system upgrade system was added the system has only gotten substationally more and more expensive. and will do so unless we get a new way to upgrade the Heirlooms. I will say though i have no issues useing gold to pay for the heirlooms themsleves its the upgrade system itslef i feel is the issue.

Again I have no issues the base Heirlooms being sold for gold its the upgrade system that needs to be changed i feel. Dragonflight introduced a system i feel could be used in upgrading the heirlooms. I am refering to the system that lets us upgrade the iLVL for our gear.

Perhaps if they do something similar to Justice Points but we could earn it from doing World Content as well not just doing instances. For the PVP heirlooms I feel they that could do a varitation to Honor Points or what ever the PVP version ot Justive points were.

I feel something like that could be ever green since everyone does World and Instance content. Could even have it if we get Loremaster for Zone and expansion maybe we get a little extra for getting those achievemnets when it comes ot the PVE content and do something that would surround PVP that would be the PVP Equivalent to the Loremaster acheivements.

Another option could even be have X amount drop from Keys depending on its difficulty. For PVP have it where you get X amount depending if you do rated or non rated.

I feel like since theyve demeaned them so much that the fair thing to do for those who still use them is to…FOR FREE…finish up EVERY SLOT for ZERO grinding, so we can at least enjoy an entire set while leveling, given how many hundreds of thousands of gold we spent on the flippin things.

At least the stage 1 for mogs lol.

Coming from cata play, I now see how far these have fallen from prior glory. I remember our wrath redo rushes for shoulders. and even pve swung by for a weapon. Better than praying to rng gods in the leveling. If they did not answer…you still had the loom weapon. all good there.

I came back to retail and said…I don’t need to do final stages on some stuff.

That 70 change over just seals that. The ilevel cutover (I had mail done, I was a hunter addict lol) had me not able even run intro dungeon lol. Even cata allows BRC for some upgrades at 80.

Bear in mind the upgrades have multiple currency options to obtain upgrades. That includes gold, Timewarped badges, Love Tokens and Brewfest prize tokens.

If the looms had any value like they used to, fine…but at this point the have no value…literally…because saving a very small amount of gold mogging when leveling doesnt come close to the extreme amount of gold we paid for them.

when we had 120 levels and it was a slog and we got extra XP…sure…some value there…but all they do now is say 1 or 2 gold changing mogs while leveling to current content…once you get to current they are replaced by questing greens pretty much right out the gate.

Remove all upgrade costs and just have a single purchase price for looms that level from 1- current content so theres at least some reason to buy the things…and fill in all the missing slots…at least one ring, belt, feet, wrist, etc…

Given how much we’ve spent they should be useful at least majority of leveling but they aren’t sadly.

Sad I only use them now because I don’t want to have to keep re-transmogging, but at this point I’m tempted to just look like a clown for the hour or so it takes to get to max level. They’re pretty useless.

At the very least you shouldn’t have to upgrade them for arbitrary breakpoints. They should automatically go until the start of the current expansion. Their use is so short term and limited that they’re arguably not worth the price being charged for even the initial purchase no less the upgrades.

Last i checked during those events, granted may of been a while, either those events you xant get enough curre cy to fully upgrade during the event or the event doesn’t have all the upgrades.

Obviously the amount of currency you can earn is limited during some events but at least you can get a few upgrades using them rather than gold. The exception would be the TW ones; TW events happen frequently and unless you are spending them all on mounts and mog, its quite possible to buy a fair few upgrades using TW currency.

I do agree with you, at the minimum the upgrades could be removed since the original reason got then due to saving gold in the long run made sense to upgrade them especially since heirlooms dont need to be repaired

the upgrade system is too much cost for what is essentially white quality gear that levels with you. leveling gear is almost always better than looms now.

I am fairly certain that this was the goal.

They knew removing them outright would have caused riots. So they made them completely useless.

And there they shall remain henceforth.

We have been on a path for the last 3-4 expansions of making the leveling experience less, and less, and less significant. I would not be surprised if we see leveling altogether go away in the next few years.

Current system exists to drain currency and nothing more.

To be clear, I don’t support this, nor the current heirlooms, but I can see the writing on the wall.

the TW prices suck massively. I had to swing by there since its 10K xp or something for the 60/70 levelers when they get that token quest.

Even with hardcore spam you won’t get much. My s. priest only did storm the beaches after dalaran popped part of TWW. Mop dungeon after that.

It isn’t buying crap for loom upgrades.

NOw…if they let us warband that, maybe in time it could happen. its still personal currency so yeah…no. and this char and my s. priest at 80 have better things to do at 80.

Like pvp gear up.

They are not well enough priced that I have any desire to earn a holiday currency to get an upgrade, or use up timewalking badges for them at the cost of not purchasing the mountain of other timewalking cosmetics that have been steadily added. They’d have to be like 1/3rd of the price for it to feel worth it on any given holiday for me to consider earning up currency for that.

It might be different if they had stopped adding new items for holidays and timewalking to compete with it. But they add new items regularly enough that the heirlooms just can’t compete at their crummy, exaggerated prices. (And gold, of course, pretty much always has a better use than using it on heirloom upgrading).

If they’d just give them an XP bonus again i’d settle for that.

The main problem with heirlooms is the revamped set bonuses are rather lackluster at best.

The Rested XP bonuses are nice and actually provide more XP than the original flat bonuses did. However, the fact that rested XP caps at 150% of a level means that it takes virtually zero time to burn through rested xp, at which point those set bonuses effectively don’t exist anymore.

If I were to redesign the heirloom system, I would do so in the following manner:

  • Remove the 2-piece and 6-piece rested xp set bonuses and replace with actually useful bonuses.
At the very least combine them into a single 50-60% consumption reduction at the 2-piece level.
  • Replace the 6-piece bonus with an Outdoor, Riding and Swimming Move speed bonus. Even if it was just a flat 5%
  • Fill out the remaining slots (even if they don’t contribute to the set bonus)
There’s no real reason for there not to be Belts, Bracers, Boots and gloves at this point. The entire purpose of heirloom gear is to be a convenience for existing max level players to more efficiently level alts. Don’t just go half way.
  • Convert the armor and weapons gained from Archaeology into Heirlooms.
With the exception of Zin’Rok, the gear from Archaeology was never really useful compared to dungeon and even early tier raid drops. There is no reason not to just make these items (Including Zin’Rok) Heirlooms at this stage of the game. Some of the existing Arch patterns that don’t actually do anything could also be converted into ring and trinkets with relative ease to provide alternate methods of filling those slots that don’t involve the WoD shipyard build or getting super lucky with the STV fishing event or DMF brawl. Archaeology would also make for a good place to put the missing slot items as well. Would help make that profession actually useful for something.
  • Consolidate some slot items
It’s silly to have separate “PvP” trinkets for Horde and Alliance. Just make a single one.
The same applies to the BfA cloaks and trinkets. There was no need to separate these. But since they already exist just remove the faction/race restriction from equipping them.

Much of what you said id be fine with. I would maybe say add the heirloom upgrades to archeology as well. That way if we get an item we already got wed get the upgrade instead.

I would also say instead of having 2 different upgrades have a single upgrade would be more helpful. I would also love to see heirlooms to become a gear type instead of having them mail, plate, leather or cloth.

Just adding to the topic my recent experience. My lvl 64 warrior has a 2H Heirloom sword that is at 5/6 upgrade. To get the final upgrade, it’s 7.5k gold at the vendor in Ironforge. It doesn’t give any rested xp gains or set bonuses, so why would I pay that? I think I used timewarp badges to upgrade it to this point.

Went to the AH and got a 2H axe for 250 gold with better stats. Done.

As they are now, I just don’t see any value in spending the absurd amounts of either gold or holiday currencies to upgrade them. The upgrade tokens are also just convoluted af.

At the very least, they should just scrap the upgrading token nonsense and just have heirlooms automatically scale to the previous xpac and then raise their level scale each pre-release patch.
