Heirlooms they have been helpful in LVLing many alts since they were introduced aroiund wrath. They have also gone through a couple changes with first ueing Justice points to upgrade them then needing gold, there was also the iLVL and LVL squishes. With how the current state of the game is I feel another change for Heirlooms is ‘NEEDED’.
The first change i feel is needed for heirlooms is Heirlooms should be its OWN gear type, Heirllom should not be a “gear sub type”. what i mean is INstead of the Heirloom being ONLY known for its LVL scaling abilioty up to whatever the LVL cap is for them at the time and that the peices like the hHead shoulders and torsoe be Plate, Mail, Cloth, ETC., Its gear type should JUST be heirloom to allow the same Head, Torse, Chest, ETC., be able to be worn no matter the class rahter they be Warrior Lock, ROgue or Hunter. This would allow people who can’t seem to make and maintain a Million gold in game to constantly buy new ones and fully upgrade new ones.
Talking bout Upgrading them and as i mentioned not everyone has the gold or the gold income to keep up with the upgrading of the Heirlooms. No matter if the piece is bought with gold or from an event vendor. We have seen Upgrade vendors that require a special currency to upgrade what ever the current gear is in game, I think something like that could be used to upgrade the heirlooms.
As for the Currency an option could be a Combination of the Timewalking Currency plus the DMF (Darkmoon Faire for those who don’t know that abbreviation) currency, or even make a currency that would be part of a reward for Queing up for Dungeons, LFR, and PVP, a 3 person Scenario were released in MOP and there were Island Expeditions (Normal, Heroic and PVP) IF they were made queueable on the Party Finder system they could even be another way to get this currency. Plus allow people to que up for previous expansion Dungeons and LFR but when an Expansions Timewalking is currently active dont allow us to get thsoe dungeons or raids when we que up.

They were nice when they actually gave bonus exp.
Going to assume the people selling max level boosts were also the ones who did the changes.
lmao.
Probably. The only use I see for them is to maintain a single transmog while leveling.

Their primary use is to be an always up to date and “good” piece of gear. With how fast leveling is now, I don’t think any dev time being wasted to revisit them is warranted.
At most, I think maybe do away with the ranks and just let them auto scale up to the end of the current expansion green item level after the first major patch is out and up to the previous expansion level and quest greens gear cap otherwise.
I have a lot of heirlooms, many upgraded, I don’t even use them because why? For some extra rested experience in a game where leveling is very fast to start? Upgrading the ones I don’t have upgraded is more of an annoyance than taking the little bit of time to level slower.
The exp bonus was nice, but I do feel that players underestimate their value even without it. I will swear by them 24/7.
I spent SO MUCH gold on heirlooms back in the day. They gutted them. They no longer give an xp bonus, so the only thing they’re good for is maintaining a decent mog through the leveling experience.
They destroyed heirlooms. They don’t just need a rework. They need a total redesign with a flat xp bonus (which is why most of us bought them). I’m an alt grinder b/c of profession completionism and because I like leveling the horde and alliance side of every story.
I was so salty about the destruction of heirlooms that I haven’t really bothered looking at them for like 3 expansions now.
Clearly, I’m still upset about it.

Every time they rework them they get worse so no.
I agree with those who mentioned that Heirlooms were better when it gave an EXP boost. Currently this is how its set up, Equipping 2, 3, 5 or 6 Heirloom items from the categories Helm, Neck, Shoulders, Chest, Cloak, Ring and Legs means the following:
- 2-Set: Grants you a 30% longer Rested XP period.
- 3-Set: This lets you generate more health while not in combat.
- 5-Set: Every level-up deals AoE damage and grants you 40% more primary stat for 2 minutes.
- 6-Set: Grants you another 30% longer Rested XP period.
I feel a change to this that COULD happen is as follows;
- 2-Set: This lets you generate more health while not in combat.
- 3-Set: Increases stats by 25%
- 5-Set: Every level-up deals AoE damage and grants you 40% more primary stat for 2 minutes.
- 6-Set: Grants you a 50% longer Rested XP period and a 25% XP Boost
Another option could be as follows;
- 2-Set: This lets you generate more health while not in combat.
- 3-Set: Increases stats by 25%
- 4-Set: Every level-up deals AoE damage and grants you 40% more primary stat for 2 minutes.
- 6-Set: Grants you a 50a 25% XP Boost
- 8-Set: Grants you a 50% Rested XP Boost
- 10-Set: This could be a PVP perk if a person does PVP while wearing Heirlooms
Plus making Heirlooms as good as Epic pieces of gear UNTIL they hit the current expansion then make where the heirlooms are ALMOST as good as Rare gear.
