Heirlooms and Shadowlands

I would love to upgrade and use my heirlooms during this 100% exp event, but I do not want to end up wasting a lot of gold.

Example:

  1. Upgrade heirloom to 120 from the current cap (mine are level 90)
  2. Shadowlands comes out and makes heirlooms level 50 by default and upgradable to 60.

That is a lot of wasted gold.

Is it safe to upgrade heirlooms?

I’m not aware of them having said anything about how they’re going to handle heirlooms post-squish.

I have upgraded a set for the 4 class types to 120 and I am very curious how they will handle it as well.

Easiest I would imagine would be each bracket would be reduced to 15 levels, so 15, 30, 45 and 60.

I’m betting they’ll cap the current ones at 50 (regardless of it they break them up into their new equivalents or just set everything current to 50) and then introduce a new tier for 50-60. Heirlooms are meant to speed things up on alts; they’re not going to want us heading into Shadowlands day 1 with our mains covered in heirlooms.

That makes sense.

This is what I am imagining as well, which is why I want confirmation before I do it.

The default leveling experience is supposed to be much quicker now, making me wonder how worth upgrading they are. 10 levels right now is very relative to what expansion you are in.

The 110-120 heirlooms right now are statistically weaker than azerite questing gear and only provide an experience advantage when swapped during quest turn ins.
If you can get azerite gear early, or even mid leveling, during the squish, I feel like heirlooms won’t be worth it.

That’s assuming Azurite gear still exists after the squish. Every other system like it has gone away when the new xpac comes out.

I was thinking the same.

Or possibly in 10-level brackets?

That would make sense too, but they would have to greatly reduce the cost, which would be cool.

Do you think they’ll reduce the cost? I don’t really see that occurring.

I think they’ll add another upgrade tier (50-60) for 100k apiece, personally.

But I hope you’re right.

I can see them disabling the traits, but those things, like artifact weapons come at a higher base ilvl than everything else. But you might be right, they could likely be nerfed considerably.
