Heirloom rework

Before the level squish, Heirlooms functioned right out of the box. 1-60 without ever needing to change gear.

Post squish they’re entirely pointless, requiring hundreds of thousands of gold to not become useless three seconds outside of your chosen starting experience.

To fix this travesty I propose a rework to the Heirloom system.

Heirlooms would scale to one level below the current maximum, and continue to do so in perpetuity. A single set of equipment to bring you all the way to current content.

All the current scabbards and casings would be condensed into a single upgrade item. Instead of increasing the maximum level the gear scales, it would unlock the set bonuses that accelerate leveling.

This way Heirlooms are perfectly functional out of the box as equipment you don’t need to constantly trade out, and can be upgraded for an even smoother/faster leveling experience.

Problem solved. Forever.

the many things the squish ruined because Blizzard is too lazy to properly tune the game outside of end game. even end game is a clown show when it comes to proper tuning.

Levelling is so fast that you don’t really need heirlooms anymore.
I levelled an earthen from 10 to 80 using no heirlooms and it took me about four hours.

If he did it during the anniversary in Timewalking, I believe it.

I would be happy with just this.

Yeah, they give out XP bonuses like candy. Darkmoon is in two days, so that’ll be an extra 10%.

I also think rested exp needs to be revisited. You consume it way too fast these days.

Not exactly sure what they could do with it but something as simple as letting me recharge it faster by visiting an inn increases its recharge rate.

People leveling via dungeon queues would gather in inns between queues, might end up meeting new players and making groups together?

If nothing else, they need to drastically cut the cost of upgrading them. In their current state, Heirlooms are… imo… not worth the thousands of gold or thousands of event tokens it takes to upgrade them. Putting aside their lackluster set bonuses and ilvls, the whole upgrade system is just a convoluted mess.

Err I might steer you towards the various TW vendors? For some amount of badges, you get those upgrade tokens with no gold involved whatsoever! Its the Lunar festival at the moment… You can also upgrade with that event’s currency.

Upgrade heirlooms with gold… That is for… You know what, I will stop here.

No, TW vendors are not an option anymore. Badge drops have been cut far too much. Gold is now the time-efficient way and it still sucks.

Yes yes yes.
Fiddling with upgrade items and waiting for a new batch to be coded up and added at some nebulous future date is bad. Upgrade costs are absurd for how little benefit they offer, especially after the +xp removal.

If they insist on making tanks so weak in the final leveling stretch then at least give them a way out of being undergeared on top of being weak. Buying leveling gear from TW vendors is a crutch that isn’t always available.

I agree that there are far too many upgrades necessary for heirlooms these days. The upgrades made sense when we leveled through each expansion, and when those brackets took longer.

I think I’m pretty okay with a one-time upgrade each expansion drop, but they should automatically scale up to that point.

Tie the newest max-level heirlooms to Warband Mentor x3 achieve. EZ done. If you level a bunch and need them, you get them. If you don’t, and don’t, then you don’t.

It wasn’t just the stat squish that made heirlooms pointless. People complained that Heirlooms were too powerful/gave people an advantage. Blizzard eventually listened and nerfed their stats down and removed the XP bonus from them.

A reason why the gold cost on them is so high, is because they are hold overs from when heirlooms were actually useful, now they are just there to keep a transmog mostly in tact.

Consolidating the upgrade tokens and cutting their cost by 3/4s would help so much with them.

Increase the item level of heirlooms and I’ll stop complaining about them.

Now that they no longer give xp bonus, at least make them better than quest and dungeon drops.

I may very well skip the heirloom upgrade in this exp tbh. A good number of the alt army that I like to level each exp is up to snuff thanks to that warband buff. Leveling process was quite smooth.

once they reworked heirlooms to go from increasing xp gain to that useless rested xp bonus they became useless. something you use to use to speed up leveling became counter productive when it boost something you only gain when not playing. sure i got my moneys worth out of them but i would never upgrade them now. mine only go up to i think 50-60 depending on which ones and thats as far as that useless gear will go. last toon i leveled was replacing the heirloom gear with drops in dungeons anyway so if it cant at least be a higher ilvl than drops its value is 0. there just relics of a bygone era now

Tanks using natural leveling gear are the ones who get squished when they reach the 76-79 range. Which is also the very slowest part, so they really get to feel it.

Yes if they die a lot it means they’re bad at tanking but everyone else is faceroll herpaderping through the leveling process, let them do it too.
