Heirloom gear

I lvled this character with full heirloom gear that goes to lvl 44. Things were easy so now I’m lvling a death knight without heirlooms and only using the gear that drops out comes from quests. Honestly I don’t see a difference. Did they kill heirlooms?

i think so i mean leveling really isn’t that hard tbh with the heirlooms it was useful for 2 reasons 1. it had the exp buff before they removed it and tied it to rested exp only. 2. it saves you time from replacing as you level.

if you actually compare heirloom gear of the same ilvl to quest gear you’d be amazed at how some quest gear are actually a lot better but of course when the levels kick in then yea it will eventually be a downgrade.

When they implemented level scaling during Legion they nerfed heirloom stats into the ground. They are mostly no better than quest gear.

Yes. Unless rng hates you in dungeon leveling you gets decent hits.

Its main value I see these days is only pure SL made chars. they won’t have the bfa gears squished to 100 the happened in prepatch.

this makes dungeon pickup at 51 impossible. Ilevel too low unless you buy the gear. all my new new alts had this issue. My squisehd 50 alts had the 100 ilevel to hit dungeon at 51.

On the fence about 60 upgrading the plate as I need 2 warriors to run through to 60 and their gear is weak. Even in tof…I want to see dungeon asap really. that can be few passes of the options for ilevel clearing gear. edit: not buying green twice could make this the cheaper option why on the fence

Heirlooms foreshadowed their death when they powered down their stats, and became almost worthless once they took out the exp increase since a lot of dungeon drops were on par, or superior to them.
They basically only offer use for enchants and RNG protection while leveling.

The only real benefit to heirlooms now is that they level up with you (depending on how much gold you spent on increasing the levels on heirlooms), so you don’t need to fill in spots of pieces you dont get as you play.

Also things like the trinkets can be very good, and the weapons, especially the ones from Garrosh, which have multiple gem slots.

Other than that, the real benefit of heirlooms that we once had is now gone, so they arent really that much better than blue gear you can get. And if quest pieces proc to blue or purple, thats even nicer.

When they nerfed heirlooms stats during Legion, they also removed versatility from any pieces that had it but the neck and a pvp cloak. Prior to that I had bought all the legendaries of both types. Now they were all crit, haste, or crit-haste, which is bad for tanking.

Levelers right from the start had really bad gear. I saw level 10’s with ilvl 1, 2 pieces of white gear. I think the new leveling gear is a reaction to the fact that starting new players at ilvl 0 is not helping them, rather than a cosmetic gift to collectors.

Leveling in dungeons, even dungeons that give a satchel, is so fast that players fall behind. At level 30 now players start getting a second “chest” that contains a slightly lower ilvl piece of gear that will be good to replace one that is 20 ilvls lower than their level.

Also, now that mastery is available to characters at level 10, most leveling zones don’t give mastery gear, nor do helpful satchels. I see the Agility/versatility neck is now stam/mast/vers.

Getting up to 100 in BfA is almost impossible now without farming the vale and getting incredibly lucky drops. I did 10 assault this week and got 2 pieces of useless gear. Yet you see a lot of players 50+ struggling to get that gear, some with ilvls of <50.

I don’t know what the solution is. Starving levelers of gear isn’t it.

Blizzard did this to heirlooms. The heirlooms were innocent! But I figured they would pick away at them until they were useless. I didn’t predict, however, that the cost of upgrading them would go up so much. But buy those tokens, guys!

Levelers don’t start to get trinkets from content until much later.

I think these are really rare. I have never seen a player with this equipped.

I have 3 Garrosh items, the staff, the bow and 2h axe. I probably would have got more but I wasnt doing much raiding back then and just ran out of time. I don’t believe in making heirloom items unavailable; all of the ones from Garrosh should be put back into the game on vendors in some way.

I was mostly referring to the heirloom trinkets, like the Touch of the Void, the War Horns, etc. I am often giving away the satchel with the TofV trinket because its a very nice dps trink for levelling.

I was referring to the fact that levelers without heirloom trinkets are going to have empty slots for a while.

They’ve nerfed heirlooms over and over again to the point they basically just don’t matter.

They are basically greens now. :woman_shrugging:

I am still pissed I spent so much gold on my heirlooms for blizzard to just make them completely worthless.

They don’t even give bonus XP anymore.

well they dont give an exp bonus if that’s what you’re talking about.
They are just gear that scale as you level.

They’ve slowly murdered heirlooms over and over over the years.

They started off incredible. Great epic-quality stats, ilevel and nice xp boost.

Now they’re barely blue-quality with a crap bonus.

in 7.3.5 at the end of legion, the gave you the combo of nerfing the stats on looms, and buffing quest/dungeon reward gear at lower levels at the same time as they introduced the scaling world. With 9.0 in SL, they shrank the gap between looms and quest rewards even further, by doing even more modernization on the leveling itemization from vanilla, and keeping looms at the same ilvl as dungeon blues for that level (maybe +1 or 2), at the same time as they re-worked the set bonus.

That depends where you start in Chromie Time. A lv 1 starting in Northshire to Elwynn Forest to Westfall will be differently geared than one that starts WotLK and gets to 20 in the Howling Fjords for example.

Its a big mash up of 'how the ‘ell’.

I just got my dk to 23 and got a new sword and went to do my dk enchant and while I was in the dk floating area I went to the abomination vendor to sell junk and discovered that he has dk gear that I can wear and it’s better then the quest gear I been getting and better then the stock dk gear you start out with.

The set bonus the heirlooms offer is not insignificant. You level so quickly that often non heirloom gear becomes quickly obsolete. They are equipped for the entire leveling process so you can gain benefit of powerful enchants. With enough purchased you are awarded a mount that you can use from level 1. The more characters you level the more value you get out of the investment

Only if you’re using enchants on them good for the level are they even worth it, they’re definitely not worth all the gold you have to spend if you’re starting from scratch though.

They’ve been slowly killing heirlooms over the years compared to what they used to be.

 If you don’t already have them don’t waste your gold getting them. If you get them using a holiday currency you don’t need for anything else sure, go for it but don’t waste gold on them. If looms came out today as they are now I wouldn’t buy them.

Nope. I’ve been keeping track on the last couple of alts I leveled. Every once in a while I’ll find a quest reward that’s slightly better, but usually the heirlooms are. And of course once you level, all of your gear increases and you don’t have to replace it piece by piece.
