Hi. I’d say its me again, but I’ve posted-like-almost nothing on here, and I’ve been around little. The last few times I made a thread, it was for roleplay advice. Each time, I actually got excellent advice and critique from those who responded. So, based on that, I’d like some help again. I think I have a good basis for a character, as well as a way for them not to be nearly too overpowered, but still make sense. But I’d like some help with it. For those who aren’t aware of Hearthstone(The game, not the rock) I dont really know how to explain it, but for those who are-how would you suggest portraying it in WOW? it exists to some extent, but lets say I wanted to roleplay a character exclusively from hearthstone(Which, incidently, I do)-or someone who’s a hearthstone player in the universe of Azeroth. Is it a game? A profession? Its own type of magic? Am I just thinking too hard about this and bothering people with a question that they dont care about? Welp I guess I’ll find out
its just a card game with familiar faces on it…
so probably a hobby that anyone can play
someone probably has a board that makes the cards move a bit
like wizards chess
I’ve never really played Hearthstone, but if one was going to portray a Hearthstone card sharp, I’d almost say it’d be similar to portraying a poker player or other gambler, or going the Yu-Gi-Oh route and using one of their character archetypes. And I’d think it’s both a game and a profession. There are people who golf for fun, and those who are professionals, so why would Hearthstone be any different?
Maybe answering some questions about your character might help. Why is your character playing? Is he good? Does he like the game? Is he addicted to gambling? Does he teach?
If you literally wanted to play Hearthstone within WoW, that might be interesting. But would you do a watered down version or would you tab out and play in actual Hearthstone?
There are Hearthstone toys in WoW that reference the game as existing. Also the HS ads feature various races in taverns playing it so I think it isn’t beyond belief to imagine it being an ingame pastime. And beyond all that, a HS playing character is not even close to one of the stranger things I’ve seen on WrA over the years.
Go for it! And if people want to give you any flack about it, remember the number one rule of RP: if you and your friends are having fun and not hurting anyone, screw 'em.
Edit: I did some digging and these are the toys I was thinking of. There might be more, but if you really want to flesh out your HS shark, these might be useful! Especially the first one.
Allows you to summon a clickable HS board along with an emote saying you are ready to play. You can also click the table to flip it if you want to be a bad sport!
This one does a little fireworks display and emotes that you won a game of HS.
There might be a few others but those are the two I remember off the top of my head. Apparantly there is another toy that turns you into Lord Jaraxxus with quotes from the HS hero card, but it looks like a pretty rare drop from a Legion raid. The two I mentioned above can be bought from a human merchant who travels to your WoD garrison named Benjamin Brode. He will come to yours even if you’re Horde, although sadly you cannot seem to slay him even after buying his wares. Anyway good luck!
Oh yeah! Don’t forget your Hearthsteed!
Fun fact! Ever seen the Hearthstone boards in Mists of Pandaria in the taverns? The team had wanted to program a way to sit down and actually play Hearthstone within WoW but it was never implemented, probably had way too many coding problems. Hearthstone is about as canon in Azeroth as you can get without watching a major lore character sit down with a pint to play or mention it.
I think people have done IC Hearthstone games.
I’m totally spacing on names since it’s been years but I think it was Stone Hammer Clan (or something with stone in the name) that would host these Horde summits in Stone Talon Mountain at the unoccupied Troll village and they once had a Hearthstone tournament at one of the summits.
I didn’t play but I remember there was some bnet and discord stuff going on to help organize it all.
If you’re wanting to roleplay a character from hearthstone, I’d say yeah, sure, absolutely go ahead.
It is a game, which I imagine can be done professionally like so many other games. I don’t know about it’s own type of magic, but from what I vaguely recall the cards certainly -could- be enchanted for more ‘hardcore’ players with illusions or projections coming out of the card.
As far as canoning it in WoW, there are tons of hearthstone toys available to us as Borgg laid out in his post. It’s also widely available in Azeroth, and I’ve even seen dredgers in Revendreth playing with with a hearthstone board and cards. So it’s safe to say that it’s popular enough for adventurers, or whoever, to introduce a card game to beings of other realms.
Very late-and while I already have the Hearthsteed, apparently I have to do the entire draenor campaign to get my garrison to lvl3 just to get him to show up?
I’m not too sure. I think I read you have to have your garrison at lvl 3 but I don’t know too much more about it. I bet if you looked up Brode on Wowhead it would have more details on how to get him to show up. I just know I saw him wandering around in mine one day and bought him out, but I have no idea what triggers his visits. It can’t have been anything hard because I didn’t do hardly anything out of the way for WoD.
Is there a way you can group with someone to go to their garrison and maybe run into him there? Might be easier.
there’re taverns in kul tiras with huge hearthstone boards in em
and kul tiran cadets in the academy playing hearthstone in a cellar
hearthstone is 100% canon, idgaf what anyone says
This Wowhead guide should help you understand how to get to level 3 garrisons. Don’t gotta do the entire draenor campaign to get it.
Alternatively when you’re in game you could just hollar out in /general or /trade chat and see if someone with a level 3 garrison doesn’t just let you come on buy to get what you need from the vendor.
Hearthstone is like the Pokemon of WoW. It’s the biggest game to hit the markets. Kids want it, adults obsess over it. Theres tournaments and championships and autographed cards. In books, it’s mentioned that theres always at least one group of people playing Hearthstone.
Now it should be 100% noted, that the game WE play when we hit that big LAUNCH button for Hearthstone is not what they play. Hearthstone for us explores AUs of different characters, universes and scenarios. All those things with concepts like Rusted Legion and all that are purely withen the realm of Hearthstone. And it’s best not to bring any concept that hasn’t been put in WoW yet and mentioned as canon. A creature that exists in Hearthstone, might not exist yet in WoW until it’s made canon. Like the Tortollons.
Some of the things you can do, is do some research of things that have been implemented. Sir Finley is a character that is canon in WoW, so are Tortollons and that one Pirate Orc.
And because of that, is why I feel the Hearthsthone in game is a much more toned down version than what we see depicted. Maybe the cards have a little shimmer, who knows. But the way I go about it, I don’t call it the Thrall deck or the Anduin deck. I refer to them as shaman and priest. The cards themselves, I give some allowance to have recognizable faces, like you would with sports cards (which for me, I still here or there, considering every race places this game and why would the Alliance want a card of Grommash Hellscream show up in their pack.)
But I keep things simple and on the downlow. It’s not Forged in the Barrens expac, its a Barrens Theme expac. Because theres a lot of cross between what characters are included, and how they exist in WoW.
Now COULD this be a profession? YES! Your character could strive to be a professional Hearthstone Player! Maybe they make their own custom cards and paint pictures! They could could also be a professional SCAM ARTIST and sell illegitimate cards! Poorly duplicated, one of the card genuine off-gold Grom for your pocket.
Maybe they’re a collector! A hobbyist! Maybe they just think they’re pretty! Think about how YOU might like pokemon cards. Are they just neat? Do you get way too into it? Are you a championship world class player? It’s the same with Hearthstone. It’s a game with varying levels of interest and desires.
But again , if y ou want to RP a character from Hearthstone, I would certainly be cautious. Because nothing in the Hearthstone game is canon until it makes it into WoW. However, that doesn’t mean you cant take inspiration behind a concept, and form your own unique creation and story based off the idea you saw! Which is way better in terms of expanding your creativity!
My mag’har loves Hearthstone and collects cards, but…he isn’t good at it. And he accidently was swindled out of his hard earned money for a whole deck of fakes. And he has no idea!
Ok after stressing and confusing myself as of how to get to someones garrison I finally got the toys-so thats nice
This would be my take as well. Going off the Pokemon analogy, I’d say that it’s even not fully “real.” in Azeroth itself.
Like in Pokemon you’re a kid from earth, right? The regions are based off specifically Japan (it may have changed in the recent ones, I haven’t Pokemoned since Platinum). In that sense you’re in a world that in theory IS, or is at least BASED OFF the real world. But it’s not the real world. You’re allowed to go on adventures alone as a child without anyone wondering what the heck you’re up to. There’s no roads between major cities. If you wander in grass, little monsters will attack you but never fear because you can fight them with your own monsters or catch them in magic capsules.
Hearthstone is similar, I’d wager. Is Gadgetzan a sprawling metropolis? I mean it’s not a SMALL settlement but it doesn’t seem as big as Hearthstone suggests. Are all the characters, magic and events canon, or are they made up, fictional, inserted into the universe? I’d lean towards the latter. Like Pokemon, it’s a caricature of the real world made for entertainment purposes. It bears enough of the familiar to be recognisable, but not so much as to be limiting.
Hearthstone the game is canon. Hearthstone LORE is not.
yeah the more I thought about it the more rping a hearthstone exclusive character was just-roleplaying an OC that I didnt make that doesn’t really seem that interesting-I’m more trying to use em as inspiration now
…I do really like the mean streets of gadgetzan stuff though-but thats an alternate timeline to begin with, so its kinda impossible to incorporate unless I want to do bronze dragonflight shenanigans…
…Actually Warlords exists now that I think about it
I could totally do that
What I CAN say about the Means Streets of Gadgetzan is that Gadgetzan is actually a lot bigger than what is appearing in the game. In the Traveler it’s described as a place with a lot of shops and buildings and alleyways so …are big mobster factions 100% running around with tommy guns and flapper girl orcs acknowledged in universe ? Not that we know of, but…does that mean you can’t have a character who came from your own original cartel or gang from Gadgetzan inspired by Hearthstone? Of course you can!!!
Except with this, you can make up a whole back story on who they are, what makes them special and you can make them as mobster or not as you like!
so problem-
and geeze this is entirely unrelated to my original prompt at this point
I cant find any outfit thats remotely mobster
Tuxedo suit and one of those wide brimmed hats.
That I can help you with!
As Borgg pointed out the tuxedo suit and a wide-brimmed hat would definitely work.
However I’d also like to recommend the Haliscan jacket, Haliscan Pantaloons, and the dress shoes as an alternative.
Now hats though, I got a real good one for you but it’s gonna take a lot of work. [Nat’s Drinking Hat] would work great for a mobster-look, but you gotta have Nat Pagel - Friend reputation to earn it.
These are some really great ideas you got so far from these folk!
I’d also suggest maybe rolling a Hunter, so you can find a gun you’d want to use that looks appropriate and tame some sort of creature that could boost up the look. I honestly suggest a mastiff. If you wantt to go more clockwerk by all means! But I think a good hound might fit the bill. Or, whatever you think your character might have. I mean if its all about money, tame the glitziest beast you can find. Or the most expensive looking one. Or something that means status. Like a hippo. I suggest that for particular reason at all…but he could ride a Riverbeast or tame one of those newer hippo models. But again, no reason.
But! I agree, wide brimmed had OR those little black sunglasses. I’d also suggest looking at clothes you CAN’T mog, like things out of your armor category or white/gray items. These won’t be able to be mogged, no, but fort he sake of RP they are things you can wear for fun!
